Poly Pride, represent!

I only got Dungeon because of Poly; I may have gotten one issue beyond the end of Poly, but that'd be about it. Since the comic-shop where I got my Dragon went teats-up, it's been a catch-as-catch-can proposition getting that...and I kinda lost some interest in it when it went all 3.5.

poly schmolly....

I really did enjoy the short-lived, thin Living Greyhawk add-ons though. Any chance they could make a comeback?

I've generally had a good experience with Dungeon since I subscribed a few months ago. The first two issues were late by a month, the third by two weeks, but the most recent one arrived *early*. The customer service staff kept me informed so that I at least knew what was going on. So I guess the improvements at Paizo have made a difference. I'm in Canada, btw. It is a big turn-off to get your magazine so late for international customers, so I hope Paizo works all the kinks out soon.

The supplemental material for DMs, such as the random bounty hunters and articles on vertical dungeons, were excellent generic pieces that I can use in any of my adventures. Dungeon as a toolkit for DMs is working out quite well. Can't say much about Dragon except that it never interested me when all it was doing was churning out new rules that I didn't need. Maybe I'll give it a chance now that Erik's taking a paring knife to it. ;) The Demonomicon sounds really good. How about some more Planescape-y material for planar adventurers? If you could get DiTerlizzi to do a cover for either Dragon or Dungeon, I would be all over that. :)

Erik,
First of all I want you to know I appreciate you reading and responding, and as I stated in my original response I subscribed because you convinced me in the huge thread a few months back and I thought the new format was great.

Please don't get defensive ("damned if you do..."), that was not my meaning. I of course approve that the customer service responded swiftly to my request and refunded my money. My point (and my opinion, although I am not in this business) is that in this tough business you gotta do everything in your power to preserve your customer base. The response from customer service was very 'by the book', but I didn't get the feeling from it that I interest them at all. In 99% of the cases, if someone already paid you money, he probably wants the magazine, customer service should strive to keep me 'in the loop', for your magazine's sake, not mine. Perhaps I'm not an ideal customer, a bit impatient, but aren't most of them?

So I don't want to finish this in a bad feeling kind of way, I think I'll pick up Dragon in-stores whenever I'm abroad. I do think that for you the international market can be very important and its too bad you're dropping the ball there.

Really all the best, and I'm sorry if I offended Erik or any of the Paizo people, nothing written was personal, and I do hope things get better

I do think its bad to "drop the ball" on your international customers when they pay such a HUGE amount to get the magazine they love and then not get it. I'd seen this one Trek magazine (the name escapes me but it wasn't the Communicator) that charged US customers close to $80  for a year's subscription. I'd have hated to have seen the international rate on that one..... But that made me think, "HELL NO!" and not bother as it was too much money for a magazine.

I live in the US and haven't subbed due to not having $40 in one lump sum (other than for a con, anyways... ;) ) to spare.... that and all the gripe from this board and wotc's about the shipping issue going on. I'd rather not have to "bug" a publisher unless it's that time to re-up again.....

Uhmmm... Darth.. i pay $134 for a weekly sub to an international Journal. The Lancet. Luckily they have a US distributor too though.
and $32 for Smithsonian
and $28 for National Geographic
and $51 for my ASM Journals rag.
and $105 for New England Journal of Medicine
and $81 for Annuals of Internal Medicine
and... a whole bunch more i can't remember...off the top of my head.

price wise i don't mind $109 for a 3 year subscription.

Now we know who's got all the moolah around here..... :p

You probably have more money to spare than I do..... I end up buying Dragon month-by-month as a result of not having that much to spare lump sum. I used to buy comics when I had extra dough, even had a pullbox at my comic store. That ended when the shop closed due to the landlord griping about kids "hanging around the strip mall" :] His was a great shop as I got a 30% off discount PLUS my books tax free! He used my bf's tax # as some of my comics ended up being traded to my bf's used bookstore for him to sell.

Honestly, I don't care about late delivery as long as I get about 1 a month. The material doesn't go bad and I just read them when they arrive.

But...

I have a fairly bad memory and have trouble keeping track of what's in which issue. So I have 30-40 Dragons and Dungeons on a shelf that I rarely use because finding articles is a pain. DragonDex has helped a bit, but I'd like to see Paizo put up a good, searchable index of articles (I checked the web site and doing a search did search the tables of contents, but that's not the same) that includes feats, monsters, prestige classes, etc... so that I can more easily find what I'm looking for.

I'd even consider ordering back issues if I found something that looked really interesting in a search in an issue I didn't have.

I let my subscriptions lapse partially due to financial constraints but also because they are not as useful as they would be with a good index.

I even started to make my own index, but I don't have time.
