My, there's a lot of politics in this thread.

I'm at least trying to not express any views one way or the other about politics itself, while while having a discussion about the opinions of artists influencing individual decisions.

It's very tricky! I believe the debate is worth having, but it's an argument on thin ice given how easy it can fall into a disagreement of stances rather than a disagreement on the virtues of artist opinions vs. artists works. As far as I'm concerned, the politics as per mentioned should be examples, and not debated on their own merits, otherwise we fall into the "No discussion" rule.

Because the Beatles never put political their
opinions in their songs. Or Toby Keith, for that matter. ;)

You obviously dont know what your talking about when you say things like that.

I wasnt talking about what they put in songs. I was talking about their stopping singing mid concert to make poltical type rants, which we dont want to pay for.

Keep up please.

I don't know about artists putting their opinions in their songs? Or saying opinionated things? Please explain to me what it is I don't know what I"m talking about instead of just dismissing what I say with a blanket statement.

"Shut up an sing" accounts for more than just concerts, however. It's also been expressed about artists speaking out *period*. On talk shows, rallies, etc etc. I have seen it used basically to say "Artists should not get to express their opinions, they should just be there to entertain us, because we don't care what they have to say/they don't know what they're talking about."

So, I'm "keeping up". It's called using your comment as a springboard for mine.

Wow, that was rude.

Folks - lets keep the politics out of this from NOW. Lots of people have strongly held views on many of these subjects, and this is NOT the place to discuss them.

This is excellent news. I am thrilled that Paizo is staffed with some excellent game designers and will have the muscle, money and positioning to create a powerful alternative to 4e. Perhaps Pathfinder will be the best thing since sliced bread and I will certainly be checking it out. However, more than that the success of Paizo will help to keep real Open Gaming alive via the OGL and hopefully this will help boost the popularity of other OGL great games like True20, Conan D20 and others.

This is a win, win for fans of 3.5e and the OGL. :D

Plus, Pathfinder may be a good mechanical match for the setting I am working on. Hmm....maybe dual statting with Pathfinder and True20...that might work. Damndest thing is, even though I am not a huge fan of 4e, I wouldn't be averse to statting my materials for 4e. However, I could never create my setting for 4e without being irrevocably bound to the GSL, could never make the setting adaptable to any other system.

Too risky in a business sense and and besides that personally distateful in the extreme. :-S

I'm sorry! I do sincerely find this funny since my opinion for the last 3 years is that Paizo does better material than WOTC. The last year they have been clearly superior.

Again, all in my opinion, so I got a good laugh out of it. Thanks.

(Sincerely here, I really found our difference in opinion very funny, and no, I haven't been drinking or taking any drugs, other than Motrin.)

Clearly Paizo has been writing better adventures, no argument from me. I loved Dungeon and was sorry to see it leave Paizo's very capable hands. When it comes to an entire RPG it remains to be seen, this is Paizo's first foray into this realm, but I do expect it will be a very good game. The final complexity of the game, and how it will mesh with my exisiting 3.5 adventures and splatbooks is a big part of if I will buy the final product or not. Hopefully Paizo has legs to weather decreased sales of 3.5 product while they work to get this out.
