Pathfinder 1E Paizo to Publish Howard, Moorcock, Gygax and (?)

There's a lot of awesome suggestions in this thread. I'll certainly second Michael Shea's Nifft the Lean, Poul Anderson's The Broken Sword, and Tanith Lee's Flat Earth Chronicles -- Death's Master, Night's Master, etc.

I'd also like to recommend some stories that are uniquely suited to publication by Paizo. These are Gardner Fox's "Niall of the Far Travels" stories, a bunch of fun, colorfully pulpy Sword & Sorcery yarns that were, to the best of my knowledge, only published in... The Dragon. Yeah, way back in the day when it was The Dragon rather than Dragon Magazine. I grew up on stuff like "The Curse of the Golden Godling" and "The Cube from Beyond", and I'd love to have the full set of stories available in a readable format.

Niall has been on the list from the start. Unfortunately, Fox's literary estate has not to date responded to our inquiries. Which is too bad because he's perfect for the line and has about a thousand stories I'd love to republish.

Some of these must be public domain, and a careful search for the right author might be worthwhile.
Some are. Doesn't always help though, if there are trademarks involved.
A bunch of the John Carter of Mars books are public domain, for instance, but try putting out a new John Carter novel and you'll hear from the lawyers for sure.

I don't suppose we'll ever see the John Carter of Mars novels with Frazetta's covers back in print, will we? I imagine those covers still cost a lot...

That'll be for another publisher to decide, but I suspect most publishers would prefer to put new covers on books. If you want the old covers, used editions of the run are pretty widely available, especially if you use the internet.
