As I said in the thread I started about this a few weeks ago (here),

Positives:
It's created by some very talented people (Mike Mearls, Wayne Reynolds)
It is, indeed, a complete encounter with battle map cards and a full write up for the one encounter.
The map cards look awseome from the picture.

Negatives:
The minis. They are metal and not prepainted. (This is probably a positive for some, but not for me.) Also, they are of a drow (of which I already have plenty) and a fiend (which I have enough minis to represent a "fiend"), as well as a gate (which wouid be very cool to me if it were prepainted).
It's only one encounter, which seems better suited for a skirmish game rather than a D&D game.

Other:
It's an OGL product, not a d20 or D&D product (i.e. it doesn't have the D&D or d20 logo). Though there is absolutely no logical reason for me to feel this way, that bothers me for some reason.

So after thinking about it, I've decided to pass.

I love to paint and have some awesome warhammer conversions, but anyone who can't spell "COMPLETE" doesn't get my attention. Plus the modles didn't look that great.

So I guess that we should ignore your post because you can't spell models?

BTW, compleat is a word. It is spelled correctly and it means pretty much what they decided for this set to represent - highly-developed or quintessential.

It's funny, some have said that they don't need more dark elves... Okay, then paint it as something else.

Sometimes it looks like people just bitch for the hell of it.

How is saying that you don't want more drow and demons, therefore you won't buy a product that contains them, bitching?

As for me, I won't be buying them. I don't paint minis, I like the pre-painted plastic ones. Had they been pre-painted, I may have considered it though.

I'm not surprised by the results so far.
ENWorld is focused on roleplaying games.

Miniatures have been a part of roleplaying games from the beginning, but are not essential.
Miniatures are a hobby unto themselves. Painting, modelling, etc.

The DDM miniatures have provided a way for roleplayers (and miniature gamers) to play without picking up the secondary hobby of modelling/painting. I think this is great.

The Compleat Encounter line is great too, in my opinion, and I will be buying. But I love the hobby of miniatures as well as the hobby of role playing. I hope Paizo is successful with this product, because I love the concept and am even more interested in their second release.

ramblings of the nyrfherdr.
Game ON!

Hey all,

Just to clarify for anyone reading this thread who might be confused: The Compleat Encounter products are RPG products (they have a short RPG adventure and map tiles scaled for minis use) that you could use in your D&D Minis game.

The scale on the figs was just fine. They appear to be pretty much the same scale as Reaper and Privateer figs.

As for the tiles, they are a little more flimsy than DDM tiles, but not by much.

I disagree, and agree with Phil - The Drow was smaller than most current pewter figs, which is why I passed - More in line with the (although inconsistant) DDM scale humanoids. I'd buy the Demon though, if say it was available seperately for a price in line with a Reaper fig of the same weight.

By the terms of the d20 System Licence, you can't put miniatures in a d20 product, IIRC.

Cheers!
