Paladin Feats / Living Greyhawk

Keep in mind that he's talking about a paladin in Living Greyhawk, so equipment from non-core sources like Magic of Faerun isn't going to be available (and special mounts may be difficult to come by, as well).

AFAIK you can´t get Divine Might on Level 3 in 3.5 because you get Turn Undead at level 4.

Divine Shield is so very tempting but this annoying standard action to activate it...:)
In another thread someone said that you can´t do everything for free and he´s right. Otherwise it would be unbalanced (or maybe too good and easy). Hmm, first round: Activate Shocking Weapon, Divine Shield, cast Bless Weapon, cast Divine Sacrifice or attack? I like combats when you can prepare yourself. ;)

Mounted Combat can be devastating but once again it´s something that may not come into play all the time. Sometimes the foes only attacked me and not the mount. Last time they only attacked it and critted twice in a row (good bye my loyal steed).

4. I do believe that the posters who've already suggested Extra Smiting may be on to something as well. Even three Smites per day at 10th-level is limiting. I'm seriously considering Extra Smiting at 12th. I've been eyeing Close-Quarters Fighting as well, although up to 10th we have yet to encounter a single grappling foe, so I'm not certain it'd be a great choice in our campaign...

Depends a lot on your campaign.

My paladin has gone up against beasties with Improved Grab in about 7 of the last 25 combats. Being the main tank of the party, 5 of 7 of those grapplers attempted to wrassle me.

The majority of random large monsters have Improved Grab. Most dangerous animals do, too. If your DM likes variety, you will probably see them with regularity.

Yeah...exactly why I keep eyeing it. :p I still recall Elder Basilisk's commentary on its usefulness, along with his fighter build in the Fighter vs. PsyWar thread. Our party has two meatshields. My pally and the fighter/barbarian. On the one hand, as you say, a lot of the 10+ critters have Improved Grab. On the other hand, our campaign seems to have humanoids (goblins and humans in particular), Slaad, Undead, and Demons as our major enemies.

Aarrgh! At least I have 2 more levels to decide. :p

The mounted paladin works great for gnome and halfling paladins (ride the mount in a dungeon crawl as it is the same size with you as say the 2 humans standing behind each other) BATTLEDOG!!!! (or battle dire badger) unless there is a judgement floating elsewhere quicken turning from Complete Divine makes using turns a free action

Any particular reason you took Weapon Focus? It's a pretty good feat, but there are much better things than +1 to hit. I don't think it's worth it unless it's a prereq.

Very true. Small paladins can make the most of mounted combat in a way that we Medium-sized paladins can't. :(

Nope. Quicken Turning allows you to turn undead as a free action. But Divine Feats aren't turning attempts. They merely allow you to spend a turning attempt in order to power a supernatural ability. That supernatural ability's action cost is spelled out in each Divine Feat description.

I really do wish Quicken Turning worked that way. It'd make choosing my 12th-level feat so much easier. I'd probably pick up another Divine Feat at 15th, too, in that case. :p

IMO Weapon Focus is a Feat for a melee character I just have to take. It´s "only" +1, but anything that improves my chance to hit (and damage) my opponent I find very valuable.

I often take weapon focus as well, but I have a very hard time not taking 1-2 levels of fighter as well.

On a side note, where are the Divine Might and Shield feats from?

I've considered that as well now that I'm at 10th-level straight paladin. Though I find it difficult to give up Lay On Hands, Smite, Mount, and Spell progression for feats. There aren't any feats I want that much...

The Complete Divine. And in 3.0 Defenders of the Faith.
