Paladins mount and Leadership - Help!

Dimensional

First Post
Hello

so My current Character is comming to the end of his story, having saved his ancestral home and completed the homebrew PRC he entered and the next natural place for him is to retire and lead the new community being set up.

so I'm planning a replacment Character.

My Plan A Kobold Paladin . MY GM is graciously alowing me to lose the light sensitivity :)

anyway as this will Be A lvl 10 -12 Chr depending on when My dwarf retires I was looking at taking an unusual Mount using the leadership feat.

Now maybe I'm missingsomthing but the DMG is a bit uzzy onthis Issue all it says is add a +2 or +3 ECL for al the paladin Mount specialities.

So I tried it out

InitialPlan Half Celectial Dire Badger(It has burrowing which felt right for a kobold)

now HalfCelestial is ECL+4 +3 for Mount abilities Dire Badger has 3 Animal Hitdice so total ECL is 10.

Now by Leadership rules Any cohort Can not be more than 2 lvls behind it's master - so My Kobold needs to be Lvl 12. that should Work

Here's where things get Iffy

as a Lvl 12 Paladin The Mount gets +6 HD , so my Mount is paying +3 ECL for +6 HD? seems a bit off.

It just seems like I'm missing something Here.

On p. 205 DMG 3.5 (guess you're using 3.5) it says right below the first table...

The expressions in the laft-hand column of the table refer to the current level of the paladin in relation to the level at which a particular kind of mount becomes available.

That's the important part!

So you check out at which level your paladin can first get the mount in question, in your case this is (as per p. 204 DMG 3.5 - Suitable Mounts) CR 2 (Dire Badger) +4 (LA for Half-Celestial) +3 (minimum margin to character level for a non-flying monster mount) = 9. So your Paladin needs to be level 9 to first get this mount (leadership rules are of no real importance here, as this is a special ability for the Paladin, he doesn't need leadership to get his mount).

Now the small table beneath shows how the mount gains extra abilities. Remembering the above-quoted paragraph and the level at which the mount becomes available (9th), you check the line for "level + 3 to level + 5" as your character will be 12th level (3 higher than the minimum).

Bye
Thanee
