The blow cleanly severed the prisoner's head, which fell into the prepared receptacle. </p><p></p><p>Sir Benedictine knelt then, to offer a prayer, and to begin the ritual of cleansing. He had only begun when a murmor arose in the chamber. Startled, he glanced upwards. Following the hand of the High Clerist, he glanced where it pointed.
