Pan's Labyrinth

Saw it on DVD and was leary because I had heard negative reviews but I wanted to make up my own mind and I really enjoyed it a lot. I agree the second task was creepy and would make an excellent encounter for D&D. The first task reminded me of the enterance to the Moathouse from tVoH or ToEE. :)

The two-disc special edition is wonderful. The features on the making of the movie are excellent and the director’s commentary is one of the best I’ve heard in years. And I am a fan of commentaries. Del Toro goes on at some length about the color choices.

But I also stand by my comment from the earlier thread.

Wait...we have a media forum now?

Like Merk said, I felt a little let down by the amount of screen time the "Here and now" portion of the movie got. I feel a little misled by the previews I saw, which focused on all the nifty wierdness and not the war setting. It's basically a war movie with a few fantasy elements and not a fantasy movie with a WW2 backdrop.

Still worth a look.

We enjoyed it quite a bit.

The director has an earlier fillm that's pretty good also, "The Devil's Backbone." Creepy ghost story - the ghost is particularly well done.
