Parsing feat language - Multiclass Mastery

The epic level bardic feat Multiclass Mastery says, "Gain two multiclass feats for which you meet the prerequisites."

Now, normally if I'm a bard, I can multiclass all I want, and all this does is give me two new feats -- the 'starter' multiclass feats like Student of Battle, and also the power swap feats.

If I'm an epic sorcerer, though, and I multiclass into bard, the character builder lets me take Multiclass Mastery, but then I can only grab power swap feats, because my one 'starter' multiclass feat has been taken.

Do you think this is an error, or am I just out of luck?

It's correct and you're unfortunately out of luck.

A real bard can take multiple multiclass feats due to the class feature called "multiclass versatility"

If you take a bard multiclass feat you only get the specified bard features. E.g. if you take bardic dilettante, you only gain majestic word feature. If you take bardic ritualist you gain the bardic training feature. If you take healing song you gain the song of rest and skill versatility features.

None o the bard MC feats gives you the multiclass versatility feature, so no matter how you MC into bard, you don't qualify to take more than one MC feat

I believe unless your a bard and have the "multiclass versatility" you can only multiclass into one class.

But this doesn't prevent you from taking two multi-class feats for the same class as long as you meet the other requirements.

If you had a high enough Int and Chr, your sorcerer could take Bardic Dillittante and Bardic Ritualist

Though *technically* you should be able to take two 'starter feats' for the SAME class, if possible. For example you should be take the Swordmage multiclass feats Blade Initiate and Heart of the Blade. Assuming that you already have one of the starters you should then be able to also take another starter for the same class, if any, then a power swap feat.

After all, multiclassing states that you can only take multiclass feats for "one other class", not that you can "only take one multiclass feat, for one class."

Oddly, though, I was able to have my eladrin sorcerer multiclass into rogue at 1st level, monk at 2nd, and then bard at 10th. It's possible that this was the result of me picking the feats out of order (working backwards from 30th), but the CB says nothing about it being house ruled.

Weird. Well, I'll enjoy my sorcerer/gatecrasher/master of moments for now. It's for a home game, so I'll consider this happily house ruled.
