Part Elemental characters

Got a player wanting to play an part elemental character.

First thought was Gensai - can anyone remember what book(s) are those in? Anywhere I can find out what they do? Open content version?

Any other thoughts?

Ideally an LA +0 or +1.

Genasi originally appeared (at least to my kowledge) in the FRCS. They've probably since been reprinted, but I can't rightly remember.

Yeah, Players Guide to Faerun.

Houseruling their LA +1 is adviced.

Are they a little strong then?

Is the FRCS stuff OGL or is it time to go browse my local game shop.

Unfortunately, my player with the FRCS sold it. Bah!

Nah, they are horribly weak. Weaker than dwarves

They also turn up in an issue of the dragon,although I can't tell you which one off the top of my head.

FR genasai have not been reprinted, you can only find them in the FRCS book. The Air Genasai is a little too good for +1 LA and is maximized for a rogue or wizard. The others are sub-par and not likely worth the +1 LA as they are. The Air Genasai is the only one I'd use the +1 LA on really.

In that case, I'll see if I can browse a copy of the FRCS in my local shop. Have a hack through Dragon backissues as well.

Definitely consider the LA bit as well.


Weaker than dwarves - the sky is falling! Perhaps I should houserule them to +20 Con, just like the poor dwarves. Now where's that bad houserules section gone again?

Ah. Races of Faerun? That was the book IIRC.

Nope not there either, they only have a few pages dedicated to each Genasai, nothing but fluff there. Pretty good read though. As I said, they've been pretty good about not reprinting the Genasai material.
