Part Elemental characters

Unearthed Arcana has some interesting bloodline rules, including Elemental bloodlines. Sean K Reynolds has posted an alternate to the Genasi, the Elemarns, on his website here.

They also turn up in an issue of the dragon, although I can't tell you which one off the top of my head.

Cheers

That would be issue 293. And I'm pretty sure it's still available from Paizo if you ask nice and send them money. ;)

FR genasai have not been reprinted, you can only find them in the FRCS book. The Air Genasai is a little too good for +1 LA and is maximized for a rogue or wizard. The others are sub-par and not likely worth the +1 LA as they are. The Air Genasai is the only one I'd use the +1 LA on really.

Why are the air genasi more powerful than their other elemental counterparts? It seems that the onl difference is Air genasi get levitate as their SLA and are breathless.

The genasi are also in Monsters of Faerun, although there's no LA given and I think their stats are a little different than what appears in the FRCS.

There's also elemental and half-elemental templates in the Manual of the Planes.

My $0.02:

I much prefer the Unearthed Arcana bloodline approach to the various aasimar/tiefling/genasi races. There are three big reasons for this:

1) You can apply the bloodline to ANY race. Why do all the outsiders just get busy with humans? Earth-blooded dwarves make too much sense NOT to have.

2) The bloodline can vary in intesity. Most bloodlines have intermediate strength, and the big ones have major strength. The blood can run thicker in some than in others.

3) Bloodlines are paid for, and benefits recieved, as the character levels. I like this, because it lets you have an exotic character in a 1st level game.

Yup. Never being subject to drowning, suffocation, inhaled poisons, harmful gases (natural and spell effects) and levitate (a 2nd level arcane spell) as compared to the other genasai spell-like abilities: control fire, create water, and pass without trace. All of which have a limited utility compared to the usefulness of levitate (which can eliminate ground-bound threats) and can be useful to get around obstacles.

Had a similar thought to garyh - why not be able to apply them to races other than human...

Used the elemental races from Unearthed Arcana as a guideline. Chopped together a +1 LA template for each element. I like the idea and it seems OK for humans. But it gets a little problematic: Elf + Dex boost or Dwarf + Con boost start to get a little too strong for my liking.

Thanks for the Elemarns - like those guys! Think I'll tweak them slightly and use...
