Party Names

First Post
So, does anyone out there have any good names for a party floating around. I have just started a new campaign and my group and I are trying to come up with a good name for our party, with limited sucess :)

So any favorites, ideas???

Thanks

I am running an Al-Qadim pirate type game.

In AQ you must choose elements that you can cast (either one or two depending if you are a wizard or a sorcerer). The party has access to Air, Sand, and Sea but not Fire.

So they named themselves the "Pirates of A. S. S."

Some of our past faves.

Happy Smackits Death Brigade
The Magnificant Ba$tards
Reichstag's Raiders

Granted, we weren't your average group of heroic do-gooders.

In a short lived campaign we had near Waterdeep our group became known as The Red Blades because we had a great battle near the Red Cliffs outside Waterdeep. Even deziens of the city heard of the battle and we gained a small measure of fame.

That was actually my favourite way to get a name as it was directly tied to our actions in the game. Maybe there's a similar situation in your game? That would make it more meaningful in my opinion.

Perish the thought. I'm not a big FNM person and wasn't aware they even had a album/song title called that. It was more taken off the "Magnificent Seven" motif.

I'm not sure you can name a group. Names like that have to happen. Shared experiences crystalize, and then you've got a name. The Defenders of Daybreak from PC's campaign, took that name after several of their first adventures involved fights against a group trying to extinguish the sun. It's always been an ironic name, because none of the group but the paladins are morning people.

Unless your group has been brought together under an authority or for a specific purpose, best to let them name themselves. All the best military units do.

Events are the best way to form a name for a group of adventurers. Of course, when adventuring in a beaurocrat area you might be forced to find a name. Most of the time my players do not seem to bother with names though. The only one I can think of they used is: "Thor's Hammer". This refers to the primary magical weapon of the cleric of Thor and their mission for Thor's church to recover a relic and punish the thief that stole it. Besides, they like the idea of crushing their enemies while loudly shouting charging them ;)

The group I DM'ed for started calling themselves the Company of the Cat. They took this name from a small figurine of a cat that magically meowed when stroked. Of course, they swiped this figurine from the home of a friendly but befuddled old hedge wizard while he was rummaging about for a bit of useful information for them. Mind you, the only power it had was to meow upon being petted, despite the party's certainty that it must have some hidden power. The cleric went so far as to proudly paint the image of the purloined knick-knack on his tower shield, and the Company of the Cat was born. My suggestion of the name "Company of Kleptos" was disregarded, as were my snide comments about mighty adventurers who boldly stole the heirlooms of the elderly.

Kidcthulhu is right in that names are best suggested from events that happen to the party, or come from particular characters that stand out.

My personal favorite was "The Company of Nightfall's Favor" - the only way early in our career we could survive was to hide during the day, prepare and then attack our enemy in the dead of night. We even extended this once to attacking an army of kobolds in broad noon, when they were all hiding and asleep! :)

In the Forgotten Realms, you have such notable examples as:
Mane's band
The company of Crazed Venturers (who took on all sorts of insane missions and lived)
The Knights of Myth Drannor (who devoted themselves to preventing power-hungry people from exploiting Myth Drannor)

Think on your campaign events, and I am sure a name will present itself.
