Party Tactics and Rules

One rules mistake I noticed that I don't think anyone mentioned (apologies if I'm wrong).

Hawks are tiny creatures and do not threaten any squares. Thus they would never get an AoO. You can also easily move away from them and when they move back into your square, you can take an AoO against them.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have a reference for that?

Technicaly I don't believe they even threaten the square they are in, but that would be a reasonable house rule certainly. Either way though you can always 5' step away from them to cast.

I don't have my PHB to tell you where that rule is, but you might try the size section of combat.

Found it, PHB p132.

Yeah, the 5' step would have worked against them, if they were in the same square. And the priestess would have had an AoO against one of them everytime they went into her square.

I guess the wizard could have used a Celestial Eagle (size Small).

Also remember flying manuerability rules. Birds can't hover, so when they flew up to somebody and attacked them, next round they would have to keep flying in the same direction.

Depends on the DC they hit (DMG 78):
The base DC is 0 + 1 / 10 feet of distance to hear someone casting a spell (talking or in combat).

This, however, only tells you that the creature is "somwhere overe there", you need to beat the DC by 20 or more to pinpoint a square, and the creature may then move, and still has full concealment.
