Passing through an ally, and provoking AoOs

I swear I read this somewhere in the PHB but I can not find all of the information...

It states that if you have cover against an enemy, they can not make AoOs against you. I can find this quote fine.

But I thought there was a rule that stated, when moving through the same space as an ally, your ally gives you cover, therefore you do not provoke AoOs from moving through a threatened square that your ally is in. Example:

Ogre with 10 foot reach.
Ally is 10 feet away from enemy.
You move 10 feet up to the enemy, through your allies space.
Normally you would provoke an AoO from moving out of your allies space (10' away from Ogre) into the space right next to the Ogre. But since your ally gives you cover, the Ogre can't make an AoO.

Anyway, where is the rule that states your ally gives you cover when moving through his space?

From MOVEMENT, POSITION, AND DISTANCE, COMBAT, SRD:
Moving through a Square

Friend: You can move through a square occupied by a friendly character, unless you are charging. When you move through a square occupied by a friendly character, that character doesn’t provide you with cover.

No cover.

Edit: You could tumble (DC 15) one-half your movement rate to avoid AoOs.

Well thanks for dispelling that thought I had. Was that possibly in 3.0?

Another question...

It says you can not charge through your allies square. Does this mean you can't use the Overrun option on your "ally"?

If you use Overrun on your opponent, does your "opponent" provide you cover?

In the 3.5 PHB errata, overrun can no longer be used as part of a charge. Probably for that very reason (people trying to overrun their friends)

I did not notice that. Thanks for pointing it out. I've really never even used Overrun (3.0 or 3.5). Has anyone else actually used this tactic?

Not in it's current form - making Overrun a Standard Action just sucks too much: 1st level commoner goblins can Ready Actions to step 'in the way' of Charging 20th Level Minotaur Fighters and STOP them from getting 'into the backfield'. Said Minotaur can't even TRY to Charge if said goblin is standing in his path... Nuts.

I made Overrun a mechanic that was simply resolved (in exactly the same way) if you happened to move through an occupied square during movement (Not an Action). Consequently, a character (or monster) can charge through an occupied square PROVIDED he makes a succesful Overrun check. I figured the check PLUS the unavoidable AOO associated with Overrrun was enough to balance the potential abuses.

But it's a house rule.
