past 20 level multiclass question....

My wife brought something up with me last night. lets say you have a 10 level sorcerer/10 level eldrich master( dragon magazine).. heck 10sor/10 any other spellcasting prestige that lets you gain spells as if you were the previous class works too. How would you figure the max spells known? would it end right there or would you gain more spells you know if you start back into sorcerer? So in the end you are 20sor/10eldrich master or whatever.... If anyone can give an answer then I am interested...

My guess is that there is little to no need to go back earning levels as sorcerer. The 21st level and all above are Epic-levels and when you have those you'll earn new spells differently.

The one thing you would get if you went back to earning sorcerer levels is a better familiar. Provided you don't get that from being a EM anyway.

At 21 level and every other level after that gets you a +1 to your BAB. At 22nd level and every other level after that gets you a +1 to each of your saves. I guess you get feats and stat increases at the same frequency as before.

I don't think that's what RPJunkie was asking about, He wasn't saying anything about the Epic Level Handbook, just that a 10th level spell caster\ with a 10th level spell casting prestige class that still gets the spells of the previous class has all of the spell casting ability of a 20th level spell caster and all the abilities of the prestige class with no bad stuff.

My answer, they made it this way on purpose, it is balanced as such.

Master has it pretty close.. I mean lets say i'm 20th level character, but have only taken 10 levels in Sorcerer.. Well what happens regarding my spells known progression if I start taking more sorcerer? Do I look at the sorcerer chart and go from 10th level and gain more spells or am I stuck with what i have at 20th level.......

assume 10 sorc/10 any spellcasting prestige that treats
known spells as if sorcerer.....

As Christian and Frostmarrow already said, you'll have to wait for the Epic Level Handbook. As it stands now, there are no rules for advancement past 20th level. So you will need to make your own rules regarding 21+ level characters...

If I had to guess, I would say that no, you would not go back to the normal Sorcerer chart. You are already effectively a 20th level sorcerer (with regards to spellcasting), so you have reached the end of the PHB sorcerer's spellcasting chart. You would then start using the Epic Level Handbook's spellcasting chart, whatever it may be... Plus, it makes no sense to go from learning and casting 9th level spells to being limited to learning mere 5th level spells.

If you were a Sorcerer 10/Eldritch Master 5 and took another level in Sorcerer, you would gain spells as a 16th level sorcerer.

By extension, as the others have said, a Sorc10/EM10 taking a level as sorcerer would gain spells as a 21st level sorcerer. However, as has also been stated, there are no official rules on 21st level characters.

You gonna have to make it up.

Eldritch Master doesn't increase spells per day anyway, so you don't have to worry about it.

If you meant a different PrC, you'll have to wait for the Epic Level book.

Geoff.

I'm guessing that the spell progression stops. I remember reading somewhere that the Epic Handbook shows how to level up core classes past 20th level, and gives rules for prestige classes. But I'm guessing this because Dragon 295 states that "Wish is only a 9th level spell". I'm guessing you just gain Epic spells.
