Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder compatible products from other publishers?

So, I'm really enjoying the Pathfinder Alpha stuff, and I'm looking forward to the Beta release later on this year. Paizo has the right idea in my opinion. D&D 4E isn't likely to be my idea of D&D; although, it might be an interesting game to toy with once in a while.

Anyway, after learning of Paizo's plans, I began wondering if any other OGL publishers have thought about supporting Pathfinder with third-party products. I think it would be great to get a Freeport Companion sourcebook for Pathfinder after the Beta release comes out or even next year when the finalized Pathfinder RPG comes out.

Yes, I know there is a d20 Freeport Companion but my FLGS now refuses to order in new d20 products compatible with v.3.5. Yet, they are going to keep bringing in Pathfinder products because they believe in the selling power of Paizo. That made me think there is a market for third-party publishers to produce OGL products designed to be compatible with Pathfinder.

So, what does everyone think?

Unless Pathfinder really takes off, and I mean really takes off, like 3rd edition D&D taking off, you probably won't see much in the way of support outside of Paizo themselves.

The D&D brandname is the 800 lbs. gorilla. A large chunk of the RPG customer base will move to 4e because it's the current D&D. A few might chance upon a Pathfinder book in the store and give a look, but odds are the third-party publishers are either going to branch off and do their own thing, or put their support behind D&D, not some OGL-driven 3.5e rehash.

Which when you get down to brass tacks, that's all Pathfinder really is. A 3.5e re-hash.

If Mutants & Masterminds and other systems can garner third-party support (via pdf or print product), I don't think there's any question Pathfinder RPG will have similar products available.

That said, I don't see Green Ronin revising the d20 Freeport Companion. The backwards-compatibility of Pathfinder precludes the need for such a revision. Would GR produce new stuff for Pathfinder? As a fan of both companies, I sure hope so.

I'd like to see Green Ronin and Paizo become strategic partners to keep the OGL movement strong (and there's a lot of history there with Erik & Co. working on several 1e M&M products).

We've received several requests of this nature, and we're working on something.

Of course, since all of the rules are open, other companies are free to use them by the terms of the OGL.

Is 10,000 downloads of a PDF in a single week of an alpha test enough of a "take off" for you? Sounds to me like it is. OGL rules, a game that matches up with what alot of people consider to be D&D, famailarity with the rules, and wizards of the coast being so ambiguous that no one (not even their loudest cheerleader, Clark/Orcus) sure if there's going to be any kind of license for D&D. Wrap all that up and you've got the makings of a solid 200 lb gorilla.

No its not going to go "head to head" with the 800 pounder in the corner, but the game isn't designed to do that; its designed to provide a game for those that want more life out of their 3.5 products.

Reality Deviant Publications has been plannning on heavily supporting the Pathfinder ruleset since we first learned about it.

Good to hear. Let us know if anything official happens on your end. Perhaps you could create a Pathfinder OGLink.
