I'd still take a feat over +2 str on three animals... If it's core book only, maybe not, but then Eye for Talent isn't an option anyway.

Well, I'm currently either going to go for the Ape & Snake Constrictor or Roc and Snake Constrictor. I already asked my DM last night if any Dino species were allowed and he said no. Also looking into the tiger/lion or maybe even a rhino.

The DM told me that if my character were to go into a city the ape or roc would have to wait outside or fly above the city, so as to not scare the townspeople.

The reason I would be ok with the snake, is because I could potentially hide it in some sort of bag of holding, although it would need its head outside of the bag to breath.

Still the Roc would be awesome if / when it hits lv. 7 making it a flying mount, but the DM said I could ride the Gorilla / Ape as long as it was large as well. Imagining a 9 year old druid riding an Ape into battle with a snake constrictor coming out of his bag is so amusing.

The thing with Roc is, level 7 is such a big str/con boost (especially crucial when it starts with Con 9!), and three attacks, and the grab, which as a large creature will actually work on some things. It just...becomes twice as combat capable all of a sudden, before then it's pretty bad in combat. But Grab + flight is always an awesome combo. Grab, fly them up high, then let go!

Just wanna point out, the OP is useing an archtype (which is not core) nor are some of the animals, so Eye for talent being core or not seems to be a mute point.

Also, as for Eye for Talent, Gorilla could start with an Int of 4, giving it the ability to start wearing armor/using a weapon. In addition, the Roc could have Con 11, making it slightly better combat wise from the get go.

Third point, the Ape could wear an "outfit" like a large cloak, if he is armor trained, even better. As long as no one is looking too closely, he should look like a large hairy guy with a huge sword.

As for when you get your companions, I recommend at 1st and 3rd and 5th, taking boon companion for them at the same time (this way they stay with your Druid level until lvl 7) Yes this means 2 levels later for Natural spell, but it keeps your pets viable longer.

He may be alright with the Eye for Talent feat, just not dinos as it doesn't fit the world he created. What good would boon companion do me at first level? I ask because since I am gaining the companion at the first level of druid, that animal shouldn't need it as boon companion doesn't allow levels past the druids lv.

So at lv 1 the companion and the druid would have the same level. I can understand at 3rd level and will most definitely be using it then. This would also allow me to pick natural spell at my first level for when I get wild shape.

I like the idea of putting a large cloak on the Gorilla. May need a little extra clothing like something to cover its feet, hands and face though. You see Gorilla feet peeking out from under a cloak you would get suspicious.

I will also look into the Eye for Talent. Thanks for the info and suggestions everyone.

No, what I meant was, "the only way you have so few amazing options for feats that losing a feat for this is worth it is if core feats were the only ones available to you."

Core feats for Druid are pretty lacking (especially if the DM calls Bestiary I off-limits, too, though I don't see why anyone would do that), but once splats open up, they're as feat starved as any class.
