Does the Campaign Setting look as good as the Beta Rules?

Regards,
Walt

I picked up the Campaign Setting two months ago and every time I read it I get new ideas for another adventure. Full of cool and interesting stuff, with many grey areas - not all regions, etc are so black and white.

And, as someone posted here before, very little in the way of crunch. Mostly details, descriptions, adventure tips, etc. Excellent book :)

Any thoughts? ;)

I think they are good for the most part. I particularly like the change to saving throws, as I have been suggesting de-frontloading of good saves for a long time now and its heartening to see it implemented. Hopefully, this will help cut down on saving throw stacking abuse.

Ummm, that is exactly what it is supposed to be. It is being marketed to those folks who want to have an available rules set for running 3.X style games. Not everyone wants 4e - Some of us cannot stand the bleedin' thing. Others have long running games and see no real need to change everything about how the game works. Still others like having the option of both sets of rules being available.

Pathfinder tries to fix some of the rougher parts of 3.X, without changing the entire feel, flavor, and mechanics of the game. All in all they are off to a good start in that regard - even the print version of the Beta has a fair amount of polish.
