Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder

How does a child, raised by New England Natives learn to use one? Yes I know, this is a movie.

I might be smoking something but I swore the trailer had a scene where the main character looked to be about 8 - 12 and was holding a sword when approached by a native. In other words, he already knew how to use one.

Kind of been looking for this one. :D I was getting bummed about it being moved all over the place, it was to be April 2006, then October, then January 2007...that also concerned me, but I think it may be content, R rated movies seem to be of more interest this year than last.

I think one thing the flick may get booted around about, above and beyond historical accuracy, is the notion it takes a European pretending to be a native to save the natives from the Europeans.

This is thematically similar to the story of The Last Samurai, where Cruse's character was a failure and drunkard as an American military man but managed to become a psuedo-Samurai pretty well and fought with the other Samurai against people trying to turn Japan into America.

As much as I dislike that sort of thing, I think it's actually unfair to label The Last Samurai as one of those movies. (well, aside from the lame final scene, maybe) Cruise's character is the one who's saved from himself - he doesn't become a better samurai than the Japanese and rescue them. (And it's not as if he starts from scratch, either - he clearly knows how to use a saber quite well.)

The Pathfinder is another matter, but frankly, I don't care as long as the action's fun, because it's obviously pure fantasy all around.

It was originally scheduled for release last year, and has been put on the block again for 4/13/07 in the US.

It opens this Thursday here in Chile, so I'll be there opening night. :D

With respect to how he learns to use a sword:

I cut my teeth on Tarzan, and he somehow learnt to use a knife with no problem either. at least Ghost could have memories of seen sword wielding.

In a Karl Urban interview he is reported to have been disturbed by the portrayal of the vikings as cruel and savage barbarians (or something) when his personal research showed that they had a sophisticated culture etc etc

So that maybe an important factor - its not a documentary it is a Fantasy about a whiteboy that fights for those who raised him against those to which he was born blah blah blah. The shorts look fun

I saw it today. The "dragon men" aka vikings, were almost always shot in the dark and the
natives were always shot in the light. Most of the movie was entertaining 2 out of 5 starts :]

About average for a movie. Some nice fight scenes and okay acting. It was worth the 4$ movie price.

Wait, 4$? Dang man, that's cheap. I'd be willing to see a lot more movies if they were that cheap here.
