Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Looking for a d20 Rusalka

James Jacobs

Adventurer
The rusalka's a water-based fey, and I find myself in need of one. For Pathfinder, not in real life. I know of the version that appeared in Frostburn, the version that appeared in Polyhedron, and the version that appeared in Dragon, but all of these, unfortunately, aren't open content.

I'd rather not develop a brand-new d20 version of them for the adventure (since this volume of Pathfinder's already WAY FULL UP on new monsters). I suppose I could use the tome of horrors' nereid, or throw a template onto a nymph, but I kind of need something that's also immune to cold since this critter's showing up in a high-mountain lake.

So... does anyone know of any other open d20 incarnation of this elusive water-based fey?

I believe there is one in the Monsternomicon, Vol 1.
Beat me to it. Yep, there's one in the first Monsternomicon that I quite like. Can't remember if it's got cold immunity or not, though.

A bunch of fey supplements to check, not sure if any have them though.

Celtic Fairies (don't think so from my recollection of the ones in there).

Fairies by Bastion Press.

Complete Guide to Fey.

Encyclopedia Divine Fey Magic.

A few other random sources have fey as well.

Frost and Fur might have some cold fey somewhere.

What folklore is the rusalka originally from?

Ah... yeah, rusalka is actually fey from czech (or maybe slavic in general) folklore. I bet somebody round her has made the monster (and others...), but hell I don't know about any. But I will ask, just in case. You never know.

Aren't conversions of old monsters OGC, just like conversions of old adventures? EDIT: Or is it b/c this is from WD?
Yeah, the conversion rules apply to conversions of WotC IP. I can't Open material that I don't control the rights to. (I do have Open materials on the site, but I have been careful to clearly designate what is and isn't Open.)

I started doing the WD conversions because that material seems to be, for several reasons, in a weird limbo that will probably never be untangled to allow for official, commercial updates.

But it also seemed like much of that old WD content for D&D is much too interesting to be left forgotten, either. I mean, a "new" undead monster by Roger Freaking Moore? That sort of stuff shouldn't languish in obscurity.

BTW, I need to bookmark your site -- very nice!
Thanks for the kind words. It's always nice to hear when someone gets some amusement (or even better yet, use) out of these old things.

I just looked up rusalka in the Monsternomicon. Female fey with a neat story but no cold immunity or affiliation.

Complete Guide to Fey didn't seem to have anything directly applicable.

The Little People did not either.
