D&D 4E Pausing Everything and Waiting for 4E...

Scribble

First Post
So I've "heard" a number of people mention that they are pausing all gaming as they wait for 4e...

I'm a little confused by this. I'm not knocking it (to each his own) just confused as to why someone would do this? 4e is a pretty long time away from now, and 3e still works just like it always did.

Why the pause?

If your campaigns typically run longer than 8 months or so, and yours is winding down around now, then I can see it if you really don't want to change systems in mid-stream. Especially if you've got a backlog of non-D&D games you'd like to try.

I can understand trying out a new system, but pausing all gaming?

I haven't seen anyone specifically state they would stop all gaming. How many people have you witnessed actually post something to this effect? Do you have any links? Do you have any screen names???

Well, I'm not following these people around like some sort of demented gaming stalker... so no. :p

If you choose not to believe me, as I have no proof, feel free. :)

Well, I've gotten really excited about gaming again since the 4e announcement and I really want to run a game. My problem is that I never really mastered the 3e ruleset well enough to DM it and I don't want to put in the work to really learn it and then jettison it in a few months. I know that isn't exactly the scenario you're describing since I'm not gaming currently, I'm just lengthening my current pause.

Though I've been so excited about getting a group for 4e, I haven't really considered trying another game. I've always wanted to play Mutants and Masterminds. Maybe I can find a good deal on those books.

The only people I've yet seen "stopping all gaming" have been ones yelling histrionics and claiming they'll never game again because of what D&D is doing. :) I have seen plenty saying they're stopping D&D for a while until the new rules, though.

The plan is to keep running my True20 fantasy-military campaign. I expect that it will still be running strong when 4E hit, but that won't stop me from buying the gift set.
