D&D 4E Pausing Everything and Waiting for 4E...

I wouldn't stop me from playing, if I actually had an active group at this point that is.

But it has had a similar effect on me, since I am no longer working on monsters, items, house rules and other stuff for 3e. But that isn't because I don't see a point on making 3e material, it will certainly have plenty of use until then and even after, but 4e has forced me to rethink everything I've done and plan to do.

That, and it seems a lot of stuff I wanted to make or fix is already being taken care of in 4e, and by people with far more talent than I.

I'm starting a new campaign this Friday. ::shrugs::

It's an E6 game, so I expect things will be approaching a good conclusion around June anyways.

I think most of the people that are pulling a full stop to playing rpg's are probably those who only play D&D. I'm not running D&D right now, but all this is doing is giving me a chance to run some other stuff I'm finding I really like. I will be doing a one-shot Runequest Lankhmar game( ok it'll probably be a little more than a one-shot), playing in a Scion:Hero game and after the Runequest game running a Changeling the Lost game (this game just rocks!). I also don't plan on picking up 4th ed. until I read some reviews and they go into a 2nd printing for the books or produce an official eratta. I wasn't too stoked about the amount of eratta for SW saga ed. and WotC doesn't have the best track record as far as this is concerned. If I don't like what I see as far as D&D 4e then I'll probably stick with Runequest for my fantasy fix.

I'm running a 3.5 game tonight, but I've definitely put buying any new rpg stuff on hold. The next wotc book I'll buy will probably be the preview book coming out in December.

Yeah, our 3rd campaign was one session from ending when the announcement came. It's been LAN/Videogame nights ever since...

However this weekend is the fall cottage retreat weekend, so without the internet I think we'll be forced to game....

3e campaign is over. Don't feel like starting a new campaign right now. Will wait for 4e.

I'm kind of in the same boat. That, along with a lot of other stuff going on, is why I'd just rather wait than get heavily involved in something right now.

We just finished up a 3e campaign a few months ago, and we found out that the game is horribly broken after level 15.

So we let ourselves be persuaded by our resident grognard to play a 2e campaign. It was hard being restricted, but we are gradually adapting to the old system. Ironically, the grognard is having a hard time adjusting to the restrictions and some of the more nonsensical rules.

There is some advantages to 2e over 3e though. For example, since our low level characters are so fragile, we are really being forced to think about things more and be more non-confrontational with a party of orcs. Of course we have also started learning some of our old tricks from 2e, such as using NPC's as meat shields, stealing to make up enough loot to equip ourselves, and every combat is an ambush.

I'm currently at work designing a campaign setting based on what I know and like about 4e thus far.

Hell, there are plenty of other games out there to distract me until 4e comes out. Last night, my group just finished up the one-shot-run-into-15-sessions that I DMed to introduce them all to modern D&D, so now one of my players is going to go back to running a World of Darkness campaign for us. When that adventure ends, I might take over the GM chair again, and run either Spirit of the Century or more D&D.

Oooh, man, that is a good point. And I think we've probably got even more to worry about on that score with 4e, because now that they've got D&D Insider to provide us with errata, they might feel less of an urgent need for thorough proofreading. This is definitely something worth keeping an eye on.
