D&D 4E Pausing Everything and Waiting for 4E...

Yeah, our 3rd campaign was one session from ending when the announcement came. It's been LAN/Videogame nights ever since...

However this weekend is the fall cottage retreat weekend, so without the internet I think we'll be forced to game....

Wha...what? Are you serious? Right on the edge of completing a campaign, and then they'll be no more gaming until June of next year...because the new edition was announced?

Don't you want to know how it all ends?

Sometimes it can take a couple of months to gear up for a new campaign, particularly if you are homebrewing or doing research/reading of an unfamiliar campaign setting. I ran a mini campaign while I was in such a situation (Red Hand of Doom) but I could easily see someone thinking, "Hmm, gonna start a 4e campaign in the spring/summer ... I could use this time to do some prep work for that." Particularly if the gaming group only meets once a month anyway. Not all of us are weekly gamers. :)

Yea if I ran a 4E campaign, I'd want to homebrew the hell out of it to make the setting more ... D&Dish. That will take some time.

I'll give a less flippant answer than I gave earlier. We finished our age of worms campaign earlier this year. For me it was there that I really came to see the flaws of 3.x. I was considering running mini campaigns (like red hand of doom) when I heard the annoucement.

So now I'm preping my new world, at the rate I go I'll be done by 4th ed. launch.

Oh no, we finished it.. just videogames from then on.... Anyone up for some DotA?

We switched our eight-year campaign to an ad hocced SW Saga adopted to fantasy ruleset almost immediately when the SAGA rules came out. The switch hasn't been entirely seemless, but they seem to like new CRUNCH!

Likely, when 4E comes out the end of the grand storyarch to the game will be finished so we can start fresh. :)
