[PbP] The Sandman's Binding Game Thread

Sean woke with the sun, something that had been so since he enlisted into the military. Scruffy looking he headed down stairs and sat near the fire, waiting for breakfast to be served. During breakfast he talks to the other patrons, small things like what they plan to do today and the weather etc.
If Dorn is eating at 'The Golden Oak', Sean shall sit with him.
"Morning Dorn, sleep well I trust?"

"... If you're not doing anything, I'm going outside of the city to practice with my firearms and brush up on my hunting skills. You're more than welcome to come..."

After cleaning himself up, Sean (with Dorn, if he so chooses) shall head outside of the city confines. Sean shall spend the day hunting game, cooking some of what was caught for lunch, and heading back to Silverymoon before the sun sets.

OOC: Sean carries all that he owns, not too trusting of the world.
Maybe after Ichtor, Jonas and Nazgrel discuss, on the trip back to camp Sean (and possibly Dorn) could meet. If you so wish I'll start the conversation:

IC: Sean greets the travelers with a nod and then says "Good day fellow travelers, where'd you be off to at such a time? The nearest town isn't within walk before dark."

Dorn starts the day early enough to shave clean. No different than any other day. It's the second shirt today, but at least it's pressed. The boots only need a quick brush, and it's down for breakfast.

Dorn arrives in the common room neatly groomed just after dawn. Sean the Reaver arrives, a little unkempt but he's up early-- I'll give him that.

"No time for firearms, and I've never been worth a damn with 'em anyway. Even the bow ain't kind to me. Besides, I got errands. Need a new gaunlet, one of those locking ones. Last summer a troll pulled my axe away and I had to kill it with my knife."

Knowing Sean I pull out the big frontier knife and lay it on the table for inspection. "Every seen a mad troll? Don't use something that small if you do."

When Sean leaves to clean himself up, Dorn heads for the markets. I check many smiths, but I'll buy the locking gaunlet at Brighthammer's. When you've got a loyal dwarven friend for a smith you don't shop elsewhere.

A strange sight catches my eye in the market. A lunatic wizard with a monster familiar talking to himself. Dreamy, he looks and the full impact of the coming commision hits me. Dreams. Nothing straight about this job. Anything could happen now, and it'd be just my luck to team up with a spacy freak like that wizard. I shudder and rub Ilmater's symbol. Gotta bear the weight, that's what He'd do.

With such grim thoughts I head for the Temple to see if any other souls have signed on.

"Thanks for the tip, Wood" Sean says with a smirk, then finishes his meal and heads up stairs to clean up.

"Nazgrel, I don't know much about the dreams yet. I am sure they can tell us more at the temple. We will head over there this afternoon and see if they are looking for more help." Some think tells me with the problems your chief is having, you will be helping whether the temple likes it or not...I don't blame you.

In the mean time Jonas buys some mundane equipment (Noted in Rogues Gallery Posting). Before heading back to the temple with Nazgrel.

With the shopping completed, Jonas takes Nazgrel to the Temple to help him sign on for the upcoming 'festivities'.

When they arrive Jonas introduce Nazgrel to the appropriate clerk and ask if anyone else has signed on. Claiborne will make sure that no one bothers Razor if he is left outside.

And so it begins. . .

It is clean, crisp morning in Silverymoon. A chill of autumn hangs in the air. The city bustles with life and activity unaware of the danger that waits for them that night. A young dwarven cleric of Moradin, named Donvena Swifthammer, is stricken in the eve. When her fellow clerics come to wake her the next morning she will not rise. She rests in a deep slumber only disturbed by an occasional toss and turn, as if her dreams are not entirely pleasant. The head cleric is sent for, but even his powerful magic can’t affect that which lies in the dream.

The followers of Moradin quickly take Donvena to the Temple of Silver Stars hoping that Selune’s touch can awaken the girl. The clerics of Selune can not save the girl either. Even the prayers of the High Moonmistress, Shalyssa Lurialar, seem to fall upon deaf ears. Shalyssa quickly sends for Fam Oestre, an elven sorcerer of some repute.

Fam quickly devises a daring plan, she creates several items that will allow brave souls to enter the dreams of another. Perhaps within the dreamscape a solution will be found.

A call to adventurers is sent out and several respond. Shalyssa and Fam consult the stars and choose the most daring adventurers to complete the mission. And still the people of the city turn in at night, most thankfully unaware of the treachery that lurks in the Sandman’s binding.

Dorn:
As you head toward the temple, you see a young page, dressed in the symbol of Selune, scanning the crowds. Upon seeing you he will hustle over. “Sir Hardwood, a missive from the Lady Lurialar.”, the page states with a proper bow. He hands you a letter sealed with the symbol of Selune and then departs toward the market. (See Letter below)

Ichtor:
As you wander the marketplace a young page, in the grab of Selune, approaches you, obviously afraid. “S-s-sir Tardas,” he speaks with a quiver in his voice, “I bring you a letter from the High Moonmistress.” He hands the letter to you and departs quickly with a short bow. He almost runs as he heads away. The letter you received is written on a fine parchment and sealed with the symbol of Selune in wax. (See Letter below.)

Sean:
As you practice outside the walls a young page will run over to you, obviously disheveled as if he has been walking for awhile. Breathlessly he states, “Sir Reaver, a note from the High Cleric.” He hands the letter to you and heads back toward the city with haste. The letter is written upon expensive parchment and sealed with a wax impression of Selune’s symbol. (See Letter Below)

Letter:
Upon opening the letter you can read the following.

Brave Adventurer,
The grace of Selune be upon you. The Lady has indicated that you are one of the chosen that must do battle in the dreamscape. Your presence is requested at the Temple of Silver Stars this afternoon. Please come with any equipment you may need for battle. If you are in need of quarters the temple will arrange it for you and any staff for as long as you are employed in Our Lady’s service.

More details will be provided upon your arrival but I will inform of what I can in this letter. A young cleric of Moradin has been bound into a never-ending nightmare. As each day goes by her vitality seems to weaken more. We fear something has trapped her in her dreams and is drawing the life energy from her. We wish you to venture into this poor souls dream, in a method we provide, and attempt to break this spell.

We promise adequate compensation for you efforts since the battle against evil is always a costly endeavor. We await you.

Sincerely,
Lady Shalyssa Lurialar
High Moonmistress of Selune

Jonas and Nazgrel:
The clerk, an older human, appears somewhat surprised to see you. “Well, you have good timing, Sir Jonas and Sir Nazgrel. A page had just been dispatched with letters for the adventurers that had been chosen. Let me see if I can recall what it said.” He’ll relate to you the letter from above, word for word, from memory. “That’s about the shape of it. It seems the High Moonmistress and her advisor have heard great things about you from the stars and such. If you’ll follow me I’ll escort to the sitting room where you’re meeting is to take place. You’ll be a bit early but the room is well appointed.” With that the guide will lead into the halls of the temple. After several twists and turns the guide stops before a well-made oak door. He knocks twice and enters. What you see is a luxurious sitting room. Chairs and couches are placed about the room and fine cushions are provided for those so inclined. Two large bookcases are found in the room with several books on the moon, astrology, and local history. A young elf in the garb of an acolyte stands by a table laden with fruits and wines. The guide introduces her, “ This here is Shere. She’ll serve you anything you wish from the tables and can arrange for other foodstuffs, if required. I’ve got to get back to my post. The name is Darton, since I haven’t mentioned it yet.” With that Darton leaves you in the sitting room with Shere.

OOC: Reapersaurus, I'll introduce you as soon as I get your PC. If one of these colors is hideous on your display let me know and I won't use it in the future and I'll change it here

"So Nazgrel, it looks like it won't be too tough to get you invloved in the fun after all :) ."

"Shere, if you don't mind, our friends are outside waiting for us. We thought we were only staying a moment. Their names are Claiborne and Razor Claw. I assume they are welcome here as well."

If so Jonas will go to get Claiborne and Razor (if Nazgrel wishes) and bring them into the sitting room.

"Indeed, Jonas, it seems things are finally beginning."

OOC: Bring Razor Claw on in, if he won't frighten the preists. ;)

Shere will nod at you and say, "Let me see if I can get someone to bring them in."

She leaves for a few moments then returns, "A young page has been dispatched to get your companions."

After several mintues have gone by Shere will excuse herself to see what is taking so long. She returns with Claiborne in tow. "Your... um...companion," she gestures to Nazgrel, "seems quite content where he is right now. I didn't feel the need to argue with him either. Apparently several of the young children have taken a liking to your...um....friend, and are giving him quite the meal of chickens. You might wish to make arrangements though I believe the city guard might be attracted by the crowd of gawkers that is gathering."
