PC/NPC Database?

I'm looking for an offline database to store and catalog pc and npc character sheets. No need for built in rules or anything fancy just flexible enough to accommodate any 3.5 character and allow for custom rules. In other words no predefined drop down menus, just blank entries for you to type in all the data. I'm hoping for something in access or openoffice that I can save locally to my hard drive so I don't have to depend on any online servers.

I'm not very familiar with access so I'm hoping to find one already made so I don't have to spend days or weeks learning it and then building the database from the ground up. If anyone is aware of a database similar to this I'd really appreciate a link to where I can get it.

I'm not aware of a database of NPCs. There are collections of NPCs in various books (electronic and/or print). There are character creators (like PCGen :) ) which will allow you to create and then save your NPCs.

Yeah I'm not wanting a database of premade npcs, just an empty database that I can enter my npcs and pcs in to it. Also I tried PCGen but didn't really care for it. It seems to have tons of excess features that I'd never use cluttering it up, plus it has built in rules which I do not want. It's a neat little program, just doesn't suite my purpose.

It sounds like you'd be best off creating your own using Excel or, if you're proficient in PHP/MySQL, using that. I did exactly that and created something for WFRP using PHP/MySQL as an exercise in learning how to code.

I recommend XAMPP as a nice and easy package for adding webserver capabilities to your PC (it installs Apache server, MySQL, and PHP (amongst other things of use)).

Those are all interesting. But unfortunately don't help me much. I need something offline, saved on my pc, so I don't have to rely on someone else's servers and so I can limit access. Don't want the players to be able to find stats on the bad guys.

I really like that XAMPP package and I'm sure I'll find a use for that sometime. Unfortunately I don't know php or sql so it isn't much use to me yet.

You'll have to make one. I use FileMaker Pro for my character sheet (it's a database program with a nice front end that allows for page-layout type features). It has essentially become a database for all my characters, and I could certainly use it for NPCs. It's not a fully-automated sheet/program like you may be looking for, but with some time and effort, you could always make one.
