PCGen 2.7.3 the Final Beta

Leopold

NKL4LYFE
This has been a busy, busy week as we've cleaned up
everything humanly (and superhumanly!) possible.
This is the final beta before we cut our first production
release (3.0.0). The only difference between this and
3.0.0 will be that we'll only include data which is
supported completely or nearly so, which means it will
only have a sub-set of what we include with our betas.
Betas will continue to be released at the same site.
We'll release a production version whenever a
significant milestone has been reached (and we have
the next few already mapped out!). More on that in
the weeks ahead. :)

I really want to thank a few team-members who have
gone beyond the call of duty and put in some serious
time to help get things in shape. There are quite
a few people who have been contributing - and you all
get my heartfelt thanks! There are a few I want to
single out: Mynex has been instrumental in helping
me direct things on many levels - he's also helped out
with the data files and done *massive* work on the
documentation (which is really pretty and not quite
ready for this release, but it will be included in
3.0.0 - prepare to be impressed!). Tir Gwaith has
been the heavy hitter on the data-files. His thoroughness
and persistence is to be admired! He even finished
applying the MM errata! Arknath has also contributed
very significantly to the data-file cause, and I'm fairly
certain he was recently promoted by Tir to a Lst Chimp!
Ailurodragon has also been pitching in and helping
out big-time with the data. BD has also been very helpful
in working on the documentation and taking all the screen
shots and being the court jester. :)

One the code side, Jonas has been his usual dependable
and very useful self. He's our Portal to the Negative
Plane, and helps out in many many ways. Jayme Cox
has really helped put the Resources tab and made
Familiar support a reality (and super slick!) after
that's been sitting on my wish-list since day one.
Binkley spiffed up the GM Tools and re-organized the
menus into (gasp!) logical groupings. Greg Bingleman
has continued his outstanding work on his item
customiser, and he finds time to handle a lot of the
submitted issues (big and small!) which I really
appreciated. He's also a very frequent poster at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen and his presence
there is also appreciated. Emily (Syndaryl) has also
been very helpful on the data and on the code side -
her willingness and ability to jump in has been great!
Karianna has done an outstanding job of keeping on top
of all the trackers and making sure that important issues
get flagged and prodding (gently!) the developers
assigned to various tasks. Help in that area has
allowed me to focus more on other tasks, so that
is very welcomed and appreciated!

You can right-click on an item in the available table
in the Inventory tab to "Customise" it (make a
normal item a magical one or just change its size).
Anyone wanting to use the "print" button will need
the pdf library at
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pcgen/pdf.zip and
unzip it into your PCGen's lib directory (those are
the 4 files PCGen will indicate are missing if you try
to print without having downloaded that libarary).

Here's the list of everything that has been
addressed in this release. If you reported one
of these, please verify that it is was addressed
properly. PCGen is available at
http://pcgen.sourceforge.net , and the main
discussion group is at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen . Be sure to
download at least the first two parts of PCGen...
pcgen272_part1of3.zip and pcgen272_part2of3.zip.
Please download both of these files!
There's also pcgen272_part3of3.zip which is the
complete documentation - it's been split out due to
its increased size and the fact that it doesn't change
much from release to release. Since some documentation
is included in part1of3.zip, some files will also
be in part3of3.zip, so unzipping one over the other
will require overwriting of files (which is fine
since they're identical).

We've got some OS-specific installs of PCGen to help
those who have trouble installing the generic
version. At
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen/files/Alternate PCGen%
20Releases/

you will find a list of these releases which you can
use if you have trouble with the version you find
here. Please note that there alternate versions are
updated by users, so there may be some time lag
between when an official release comes out and
when the alternate OS-specific release is ready.

so this will become a product now to compete with E-tools?

Any idea on when the KoK player's book will be included?

It's not a competition with E-Tools, and neither will it be charged for, it will continue to remain free.

By Production release, we mean out of beta... :)

Well, there is a partially implemented preview available on the yahoo group. I think the last word was that it'll be included in the beta once we figure out a way to support the non-standard BAB progression of some of the classes.
If you want to help out in adding the missing stuff, please do (and upload your fixes to the same directory the current file is found.)

The file is here:
