PCGen 4.1.5 available

Leopold

NKL4LYFE
We've done a lot of housecleaning and broken
pcgen from 2 projects into 3 projects. PCGen
itself now houses only the app and required
system files. pcgendm has been around for a
while and houses all the data files. pcgendocs
is a new project (also at sourceforge) and
houses all the documentation and output sheets.
The sizes of the 3 zip files for each release
will also change since the contents of the
zip file have been changed according to the
new project structure. New KIT: and REGION:
tags are global and can be used to automatically
assign regions and kits to a character (kits
in PCGen is a set of equipment, skills, feats,
etc. much like the 'starting packages' associated
with certain classes).

NOTE:The 'templates' directory has been removed.
It has changed to 'outputsheets' so it doesn't
confuse users with 'templates' as in what you
can apply to a character. The directory
structure under outputsheets will eventually
be broken into game types and genre in addition
to output format (html and xml are combined).

Below is a list of everything that has been
addressed in this release. If you reported one
of these, please verify that it is was addressed
properly. PCGen is available at
http://pcgen.sourceforge.net , and the main
discussion group is at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen . All
three zips are required to run PCGen:
pcgen415_part1of3.zip, pcgen415_part2of3.zip and
pcgen415_part3of3.zip.

We've got some OS-specific installs of PCGen to help
those who have trouble installing the generic
version available in our yahoo group files page.

are you talking about in each file or in each source or in general?

usually the OGC is declared in S15 when the program loads. I could be wrong, don't quote me. I'll ask the boss and have him post.

asked around heres what i got:

Everything in the data files is OGC... there's a
NAMEISPI:Y tag in list files that causes the name of
that item to be bold and italicized in the GUI to make
it evident within PCGen itself. We don't use any other
PI.

If it's PI and not noted as such let us know so we can fix it accordingly. thanks.

I just downloaded the new version. Where do you designate Open Game Content?

Thanks,
Scott

Once you select what source materials you are loading and load them, the OGL and D20 screens should be popping up with that info... (which you can select to not display when they pop up or in the preferences setup)

as for designating IP/PI stuff... that's italisized in the interface (the name of the feat/skill/etc)... that's also in the data files, look for the NAMEISPI tag.

Let me get this straight.
Everything in the data files is OGC; unless it has the NAMEISPI:Y tag; in which case its PI and this also results in Bold and Italic in the interface?

Ok, so thats how you designate OGC. Now where do you say that thats how you designate OGC? In other words where do you satisfy section 2 of the OGL. You need to not only mark OGC but you need to inform the end user how you marked the OGC so that they can recognize the marking. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place but I could not find anything that spelled this out.

Remember, we're just discussing the data files in terms of the OGL, not the interface.

The NAMEISPI:Y should tell most people that the name is PI, and conversely that everything else is not, and the only other reasonable option is that it's open game content since under the OGL either something is PI or it's OGC. The publishers we've asked about this have been happy with this explanation. If a publisher were to raise this as a concern we would be glad to discuss with them ways to alleviate those concerns. Most of the publishers seem to be quite happy to let other publishers reference their work, which is a great byproduct of the OGL. In that same spirit they've been very supportive of having their material in PCGen and none of them had any concerns along these lines. We went beyond what was required of us by making the names which are marked as PI show up as bold and italics in the interface - we wanted to make sure that the GUI drew attention to items that were PI so users wouldn't have to go through the data files to figure that out.

Are you a publisher? Would this explanation satisfy you? If not, then could you think of some ways in which we could identify the OGL clearly enough for you? Just as an aside, I think the way we generate the OGL dynamically for display is pretty cool. :)

Actually I am interested in both. Is there anything besides the .lst files and the OGL statement that is OGC?

Except that I can't find anywhere that says something like: "The contents of all .lst files are OGC, except for some names which have been identified by the NAMEISPI:Y tag"

I am not a publisher; but I am a copyright holder who will be having some things published in the near future.
