We're aiming for late October, although realistically it may be November. However, that's for a proper proper production release. I'm happily using the Beta 3.5 datasets now, and my Paladin rocks!!

So if I download and install 5.3.12, will it have the 3.5 stuff in it?

No, you'll need to grab the RSRD beta dataset from our pcgne Y! page

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen/

Look in the files/campaign and central/inwork projects/rsrd

download the zip file and unzip it from the root PCGEN directory and all should be good. The beta dataset is already going quite nicely!

Just to clarify, you want to end up with the unzipped RSRD files in a subdirectory off PCGen's data directory; e.g.,

c:\PCGen5.3.12\data\d20ogl\rsrd

That works for me.

Edit: I'm not affiliated with PCGen. I'm just a (relatively) savvy computer user.

Yeah, I got that far. ;) When I tried to add Whirlwind Attack to a character with Int 14 and Dex 18, it failed (despite having the proper prerequisite feats), so there's obviously still some bugs to be worked out.

(sent that bug to the discussion group, too)

Pcgen

Sorry to be thick, but is PCGEN the updated version of the character creation demo we got in the version 3 Players Handbook? Or a different thing entirely?

What do you guys think is the advantage of PCGEN over E-tools?

For me it's :
-free
-run under various platforms ( Windows, linux, ...)
-lots of OGL content
-good support :

To be honest I think they each have their own place. Me personally I use PCGen as a player and for NPC's. Meaning I keep all my PC's in PCGen and when I DM all my major NPC's are done in PCGen.

I use eTools for all my DM needs. Encounters, Treasure, Random Tables, etc. It's more my at the table utility.

I use Word/Excel for all my campaign/adventure notes and such.

I do use the current v22 of the 3.5 PCGen data sets. I just created a 3.5 Ranger and everything worked fine. I print out the character and then add his equipment (as that is still having problems).

>> (PCGen) -lots of OGL content
I thought all the OGL content had been removed from PCGen and was no longer available? And we weren't even allowed to discuss it here? Or was that just the copyrighted material that was removed and the OGL sources are still available?

Blech. Tablesmith is 100x better at random tables than E:Tools.

And you have a computer at the gaming table and you're not using the excellent DM's Familiar for combat management? :)
