[PCGen]

I haven't upgraded PCGen in a while (not since the crackdown by WotC). My question to those of you who have is:

Can I still use the old Splatbook .lst files with the newer versions? I want to upgrade for some of the newer features (charged items especially) but I don't want to lose the ability to make all of my characters and NPCs. :)

Thanks!

hello there!

Yes youc an use your old data files in the new program, you will need to apply a lst convertor tool for it. It's built into the application under the tools menu.

Are the splatbooks in the application anymore? No. We removed all non-srd WOTC material per WOTC's request.

Please don't ask for the files as we won't give them out.

Beyond that give us a shout on our yahoogroup!

I've moved this to the Software forum, so that you mihgt get a better response.

In short, they can in theory be used, after running them through the LST converter utility included in the program now (in the menus). But there may be some errors.

The PCGen team is even now working on a LST editor to make it easier to add your own content, as well.

I am also obligated to tell you three other things:

1) I am not a spokesperson for PCGen in any way, and do not speak for the development team.

2) The Development team does not endorse this, as WotC has asked that these files be removed until further notice.

3) ENWorld does not endorse this, for the exact same reasons.

P.S. the yahoo group in question is at http://groups.yahoo.com/pcgen (someone correct me if I am wrong.)

Any LST files from 3.0 or lower will not work with the current versions. There is a conversion tool in the current versions. It can take a while to convert all the files and then some of them will have errors that need to be corrected manually.

Your best bet is to unzip parts 1 & 2 of version 2.7.3 into a clean directly. And then unzip all parts of 3.0 on top of that with the replace option on. This will give you all he sources of 2.7.3 with all the fixes of 3.0.

Currently the any versions below 4.0 have been pulled from public download because they were not OGL/D20 compliant. We are waiting for word on our negotiations with WotC for permission to use the non-SRD sources. We should be hearing something within the next two weeks.

You can still input the data manually, right?

I mean, heaven forbid, should the entire software development staff of PCGen die tomorrow, we users should be able to update the PCGen from future d20- and OGL-based products (print or digital) on our own, correct?

Ranger,

Yes, you can still create your own list files without a problem. :)

The deity editor in place is the 1st of the list creators, and looks like Skills and then spells is next. They're being created slowly, but they are being created, so no fear!
