PCs and Monsters being different - Classes?

I think one of the npc types is arcanist: Peter Schaefer makes reference to a gnome arcanist here:

he also mentions some warlock-knights in another post - could that be a npc class, or mixture thereof?

Someone else (Logan Bonner?) mentioned an MM appendix for converting the main monster races to pcs, so one might assume they were built in similiar ways to pc races?
I don't think that those are NPC classes. I believe that monsters have roles which describe what they do but they aren't actual classes. There MAY be a way to figure out approximately what a creature of a certain role which is a certain level should be in terms of AC, hitpoints, damage, etc.

However, everything said so far has implied that monsters and NPCs don't have classes or hitdice. They aren't designed in terms of "This is a level 6 stalker and stalkers get 1d6 for hit points and a BAB of 3/4".

I don't remember the quote you are talking about regarding "coverting the main monster races to PCs". I do know that someone from WOTC did say that SOME of the races in the MM would have race write ups in addition to their monster write ups.

seems quite explicit here (I remember the post because I was excited by mention of Aasimars :) ):

'And now I'll just mention that I'm working on an appendix for the Monster Manual that provides the basics on how to play some of the non-PH races appearing in the MM as PCs.

Which ones, you ask? Well, the final list is still under quite a bit of discussion, but options that have been floated ranged from aasimar (or as I like to call 'em, the Awesomer) to warforged.

Goblins? Orcs? Kobolds? Hogboblins? Githyanki? Drow?

Maybe, maybe, maybe, I think you mean hobgoblins, maybe, and maybe.

(OK, probably yes on that last one. But don't make them any promises...you know how vengeful those dark elves can be when they don't get their way.)

Did somebody say minotaurs? Could be, could be, but we'd have to solve that pesky HD/LA problem first. Wait, my team's been telling me they have a way to slice that particular Gordian knot. What good news for Andrew "Bullheaded" Finch!'

EDIT:you're probably right about NPCs though! Arcanist could be a monster role? Perhaps warlock-knights are a society of Swordmages as it mentions eldritch knights in the entry for that in R&C? Though I wonder about NPCs like the Magewright in Eberron?

I will be pretty annoyed if they don't have PC write-ups for the basic humanoid races in the MM that they appear in. I mean if they need time to figure out how to write a good illithid PC race, fine-- but Goblins? C'mon! Don't make me wait for MM2 for that.
