PDF & Adobe acrobat tips needed

Yeah, I had problems with MSWord, mainly because of my lack of understanding the program I think (ugh floating hyphen nightmares), anyway I ended up working with saved MS word files and using Adobe Illusrtator to lay it all out. Pre-sizing all the images with Fireworks (that does work well). "Bane of the Salt Fen Lich" although extremly unsucessful, mainly because of its size (15mb) was orginally 20mb in size. I was lucky (with Fireworks help) to trim that down to 15. I know it could ahve been about 9mb, I wanted to have ALL b/w interiors and maps...but my associates out-voted me on that.

Thats why Arcanum series is all b/w. I still layout with adobe Illustrator, it handles MS Word files really well (like puddy).

I rebuild my graphics in Cerious Software's "ThumbsPlus". It works great and has fantastic versatility in graphic types, compression and basic re-rendering. I build them and edit them in Adobe Photoshop 6.01 primarily.

What do you mean by 'rebuilding'? And how does a thumbs program help or is it just that it happens to be a thumbs program and the 'thumbs' aspect has nothing to do with it? And what is re-rendering used for in a PDF book?

The most important thing!
Leave a 10-15mm blank border right around each page. In other words do not have any text appear close to your print margin. Some joker over at the Kargatane created a newzine that was literally impossible to print or even PDF. He set text within 2mm of the margin and then didn't even have the pages be the same size! Also use standard letter or A4 sized pages.
Remember if your going to take the time to release something, do it right the first time.
One day we will pass that law that stops computer program designers for example from releasing buggy software and games. Probably round the same time they lift the ban on human cloning.
