Spoilers Peacemaker Season 2 (Spoilers)

Bautista is actually a really good actor. I hope he goes far.
I agree, his dramatic work is good and he's shown comedy timing in GotG.

Dwayne has largely taken the Arnold/Stallone route of playing the same character as its own Brand regardless of movie.

and while I appreciate the athleticism WWE is as much about professional theatrical productions as anything else in "Hollywood" so we shouldnt be surprised at improvements in the acting ability of professional wrestlers

I think Johnson's problem is more ego than talent. The whole "I can't lose a fight on screen" attitude undermines the most basic principal of drama. The fight against the capoeria guys in The rundown was a blast and by all accounts he would not let it happen now.

If you told me a few years ago who out of John Cena, Dave Bautista, and Dwayne Johnson would be your favorite wrestler turned actor, I would’ve said Johnson no doubt. But in so many ways, I think Cena and Bautista have lapped Johnson because of their willingness to choose different projects that allow them show their acting chops or appear vulnerable, while Johnson really settled into that action role that felt more openly like personal branding.
Well, he was consistently taught that the times when he did stretch his acting chops, he didn't make enough money at the box office. Get Shorty playing the gay mobster, Snitch playing the concerned father with no action in it, and a few others- they all had very good reviews of his performances, but the movies didn't do so well. So he started giving the audiences what they wanted.

That keeps getting said, and really people run with it, but when you really look into it, it was a pissing game between him, Statham and Diesel and they had similar wording in their contract to determine who came out on top in these movies that had all of them in it. He's done several movies where he's taken a licking or lost a fight on screen. I'm sure if they play the Smashing Machine as it is supposed to be played, he will have to lose a fight on screen.

Back on topic, Judomaster is my new favorite character. He's grown considerably and the scenes where he both:

1. Saves Adebayo.
2. Backs Chris's version of events re: the return of the gateway.

Are great.

Gunn knows how to make characters complex, even relatively unimportant ones. He is a really good writer.

Not every movie is going to be a winner but that didn’t really stop Bautista from moving back and forth from the action movies to roles in Blade Runner 2049 or Knock at the Cabin. And while those were successful, he had his flops too like Hotel Artemis. I think the difference is that sometimes the role isn’t about being the main star, but gives one something meatier to perform despite the role being smaller. Not sure Johnson can’t be the star at this point, and wonder how much that’s limited him.

Yeah, but every one of his, even if he was acclaimed, was bombing. And it wasn't like they weren't decent movies. There's a line between holding your head down and paying your dues and becoming labeled a B-movie actor because you never quite got there. Cena you might say had as large a catalog of roles, but I don't think that Bautista did.
