People who do not frequent wizards.com

Seriously, they opened this process to community feedback, it's on us to participate. What else do you want? Mike Mearls getting on a plane to attend your weekly gaming table, to shape the game under your enlightened vision and guidance? Sense of entitlement much?

You mean they're not going to fly senior developers to my gaming table every other week? Next, you'll tell me I don't get the promised pony, either. WTF? WotC is dead to me.

the only visit you will get from WotC is from their edition ninjas who will come to burn your books, if you do not switch to 5e. But you already knew that ;)

Pretty negative viewpoint.

And I do not agree.

I think WOTC will be happy to use new ideas someone comes up with.

But I think they have a lot of their ideas already in the game, and it will be hard to go against those base ideas.

it is a negative and realistic attitude. There not going to announce a new game and say that we have no idea what it's going to be like. There already is something there that their planning to use. It's not "We want to make a new game, not sure what it is yet" but "we have a new game, please buy it". It's a done deal as far as I'm concerned. They wouldn't make these big announcements if they didn't have something concrete, it's too risky to do otherwise. What if they made a big announcement then decided to develop the game but failed. They would look terrible. A company is not going to risk that much of it's reputation. They already know what the game will be and any ideas that are "accepted" are those that fit in with that plan. The extent that they can sell this thing to people remains to be seen.

I don't play 4E and I visit the site. So, I don't think 4E players are going to be the only ones having a hand in the feedback.

I'm not sure why I stopped going to the site. I think it was the process of being excited by Gamma World and getting the game. I opened up the box and got a little book and some cards. That deflated any excitement I had about WOTC. Then I tried to reorient myself as to what 4e products I needed to play the game and got hopelessly confused. It didn't help that my group wanted to burn the existing 4e books we had...

Will 5e be written mostly by players who play 4e since only they commonly speak on the wizards forums? From their viewpoint everyone wants the game to be the same since they only input they get are existing fans, and not the pathfinder, or dragonsfoot crowd.

I think is 4.XE would have trouble recapturing lapsed players and would also have trouble getting 4E players to switch.

Enworld is the place to voice my opinion. I expect the designers coming here if they want my feedback. (Maybe they will get it in the new D&D playtest group, but otherwise i have made up my mind about that)

I agree, we need places where we can escape the corporate control of the boards. Not to mention the extreme concentration of current edition players. Where else do dnders go and talk the game that I don't know about?

The little information we have about what it is like from those who went to WotC's headquarters and tried it is that it "feels retro."

We'll have to wait for the DDXP convention to get feedback on what the idea they have for the game actually is.

At this point though, I don't think it's going to be 4.5 given everything WotC has said and done. If just appealing to the 4E fans was their goal, they wouldn't have done everything they could to get the word out that the opposite is true. And if 4E worked for them, they wouldn't be redesigning it.

So no, it's not really a realistic attitude because it doesn't mesh with reality.

I'll believe the reto hype when I see it. I'm not sure if were in disagreement here reading your post. Were both saying a new game that they want to call dnd exists.

Does not have to do anything with corporate control.
Just want a board where it is quite civil and the moderators are doing a great job keeping it civil. Reacting when necessary, but not too much.
Having people with strong opinions, voicing them and hearing feedback of what works for them and what not. Receiving great ideas.
I have no need to switch to a different message board. If wizards boards are becoming useful for me (see post above) i may switch.
But wotc designers are reading ENworld. Sometimes they even post. So it seems likely that this is the right place to be. (I sometimes post at RPG.net... but not so often)
