Percentage of Gamers in Texas

Texan myself, born and raised. I got about 10 people I know in the greater D/FW area that I game with on various times.

To Thullgrim: I hope you find someone out there to game with, I was born in WF and I got the heck outta there as soon as possible myself...

Another from Houston, here. We've got quite a few gamers here, even above the number you'd expect from having several nearby colleges.

And yet we couldn't get a decent convention here if our lives depended on it. As my students would say, "Wassup wid dat?"

Dunno. All the conventions around here tend to struggle and die off. OwlCon is still going in early February, 'though.

Sound off two (myself and my fiancee for Carrollton/Addison, Texas (suburbs of Dallas). I have 2 other on/off again players in my group, though we've had up to 7 players before. Speaking of which, I'm in the market. I forgot to get it earlier so no link, but I've got a thread on the Gamers seeking Gamers page if you're nearby and interested. Its on the second page of that forum atm.

Though I'm currently living on the Emerald Isle. I'm from Texas and the group back home is still going strong in the DFW area with 8 or 9 players gaming each week.

Last OwlCon I went to (a few years ago) was absolutely, 100% horrible. Not a single RPGA event I played in was worth my time. Of course, IIRC, the events were being run by ARGH, which fell apart after Terry Hawkins gave up the presidency.

Then there was that godawful convention at the airport a few years ago (I forget the name). A friend and I signed up for the three-round D&D tournament plus a demo game for something Gary Gygax had written and come to the convention to personally show off. The demo game was a complete bust; after more than an hour and a half of "good old days" stories, Fred and I got up and left the room.

For the three round tournament, the DM never showed for round two, so I jumped in at the last minute and ran it (after about 30 minutes of prep time, and yet I still got good ratings). For the third round, the DM was also a no-show. Since the conventions organizers didn't bother with the least bit of compensation for me heroically saving round two (no T-shirt, no admission refund, wouldn't even validate my parking - which convention advertising said was free but wasn't!), we just packed our bags and left.

These two plus the SNAFU that was SanJacCon (largely the fault of the aforementioned ARGH) have ruined convention going for me. :(

Fortunately, I've had a bit better luck at both ConSortium and OwlCon than you, although I do generally avoid RPGA events at both. I also still game with Terry on a regular basis.

Cool. How's Terry doing? I've not heard from him in a quite a while. He sat in on a couple of games two or three years ago, but the group I had at the time didn't really fit his temperment very well.
