Percentage of time in combat encounters?

I think roleplaying does really add to the game, it's just that for me I'd rather keep the roleplaying down on average to about 50% of the game time. Obviously more roleplaying is required in a town and less in questing in say a dungeon. But I do rather like combat encounters.

I ended up leaving a group because I just got so bored with so few combat encounters.

I am hoping that on a Monday evening or thursday evening i'll be able to find others to play on the net using the D&D Game table and there to find a game that generally has a bit more combat encounters.

Are any of you guys looking for that sort of game and would play on a Monday or thursday evening from around 7ish to 11ish UK time? When the D&D game table finally comes out? Also anyone know when the D&D game table will be out and if it is to be released at the same time in europe?

And what are your comments on these views. I realise everyone has a different mix of how much roleplay they want, so I suppose it is just people's own views. I don't think there is a right or wrong anwser. But it would be nice to know what others think.

Really I would like something a bit more closer to about 50% of the time in encounters on average.

I like about 50/50 myself, although maybe a little lighter on the combat (40/60?). The D&D rules arose from the assumption that fighting monsters was what the game was about. If you have practically no combat, you are really wasting the system, and could do better playing a different game. On the other hand, I get bored with pure hack and slash - I like story, setting, and character interaction so that the combat challenges seem meaningful, rather than just moving game pieces around.

A good play session for me is a couple of combat encounters, an interesting and dramatic skill challenge encounter, and several role-playing interludes.

For me and my group, we want combat to be 1/3 or less of our time -- we have had many sessions with no combat at all. We love the roleplaying aspect of the game -- our general feeling is that if we wanted primarily combat game, we would go with a miniatures wargame, such as Warhammer or a historical set of rules.

This also explains why D&D is not our primary game.

Currently our group has been enjoying Changeling: The Lost, but we have also enjoyed Ars Magica, Over the Edge, and Spirit of the Century.
