Permanency?

Spells do not re-evaluate their conditions.

Otherwise:

Animate objects doesn't work (as soon as you animate the object, it becomes a creature, and therefore not a viable target of the spell, so it stops.)

Changestaff is dispelled once you turn your staff into a treant, turning the staff back again immediately.

Getting turned into an object is a fantastic way of getting rid of all your negative levels.

An awful lot of spells stop working as soon as you stop touching the target (ie - gentle repose has target:corpse touched. So if you stop touching the corpse, it's not a legal target any more...)

Giant vermin doesn't work, because as soon as you cast it, the 'normal sized' insects stop being normal sized.

And so on and so forth.

Spells keep going through status changes - otherwise there are some really silly results, far worse than those posed by the alternative.

So, if the spell stays in effect even after death, you could cast invisibility on a corpse and make it permanent before raising the creature, which would then be permanently invisible. Broken? I think so.

Permanently...

... or until he first attacks something.

Ooh, nice examples :)

I've always been fond of Shillelagh and Heat Metal, personally :)

Ok - shillelagh I get, but heat metal? You mean that the metal equipment stops being hot as soon as the target creature drops it, right?

No, I mean if you cast it on the metal equipment of one creature per two levels, no two of which can be more than 30 ft apart...

... and one of them walks away.

Suddenly, the spell is applied to one creature per two levels... at least one of which is more than 30 feet from another one, and that group of creatures cease to be valid targets...
