Peter Berg to direct new Dune movie

Honestly, the best visual representation of Dune I have seen is the mini-series. They hit it right on the nose for how I saw Dune.

I only hope this movie given the connection with the mini-series will continue that visual style, but with better movie-effects. Some of the special effects left you wanting more in the mini-series (though was good for a tv-show for the time).

I take it then you won't be wanting to borrow my Special Edition DVD, the one I got to replace my well-worn VHS copy, which I got to augment my own personal memories of the film which I've seen numerous times since it was released in 1984?

(Lynch's Dune is one of the my favorite SF films; a beautiful failure that ends up being more compelling than a lot of films I call successful.)
Yes, you mentioned that to me, and no, I think I'll pass. It's the gin talking, man :D

Hmm - come to think of it, that may explain why Lynch's version never did it for me. I don't drink enough alcohol.

Maybe the film wasn't great, but it filled in a lot of the visuals of the books. It has become a cult classic.

Maybe it's just me, but whenever someone compliments something by describing it as a "cult classic", I immediately think that Manson and Jonestown and David Koresh were cult classics too :)

It is by booze alone I set my mind in motion.
