Peter Jackson mentions the ROTK EE DVD

Jackson made mention of it at the Onering.net Oscar party. An excerpt as quoted by www.thedigitalbits.com:

"I'm sure most of you have heard me blabbing off in the past few weeks but we've just finished the extended cut of the DVD. I finished the edit before I came over here - these poor bastards at Weta have got another 350 effects shots to do! They're well on the way. Elijah's seen the extended cut. New Line have announced some box set that's supposed to be coming out which I didn't know anything about. When I've done King Kong I'd like to do a proper box set and we've got a whole bunch of material - not of the movie but we've got a whole lot of bloopers out there! When King Kong's out the way I'd like to do a really high definition version with the best possible picture quality."

That's very cool. I can't wait. Souns like new line wants to box all three together. That's fine, as long as they do the EE RotK box like they did with the first two. I'll be seriously torqued if New Line only makes the EE RotK available by re-purchasing the first two. (I doubt they'd do that, though.)

The high-definition set Peter Jackson mentioned sounds cool. I had heard rumors he may want to repackage all three and shuffle scenes around to put them in a better chronological order and to make one long movie. That would probably be the time to do it. And it would be several years out. By then, I'd probably be willing to shell out more money for the set...

I hope that the RotK gift box edition comes with the National Geographic Behind the Scenes and a better "gift". I'd like to see bookends of Minas Tirith and Minis Morgal or the Isengard and Barad-dur.

*sighs wistfully*

Well, I liked the Smeagol and Argonath statues. I wouldn't be surprised if the statue was of Minas Tirith this time but it's really hard to guess. I was surprised about the Smeagol statue, I figured they would go with a 'structures' theme. Witch King on fell beast? Shelob?

Actually it probably won't since the FotR deluxe set already had that. With FotR you had three different sets the 2 disc, the four disc extended and the five disc extended set that included the National Geographic Disc and some book ends. I stumbled across the National Geographic disc ina store by itself before the DVD sets even came out. It was only like $10 so I snapped it up.

As I recall, FotR did not have this DVD: National Geographic Beyond the Movie - The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
