Pets as props

Oh! Your kitty looks like my kitty.

Jack, with tabby markings, longer fur, and a white blaze on his face and tummy, LOVES to get on top of the game table, spread out on the matt and knock minatures over, either with his bum or his paw.

He also, and I have to get a picture of this, likes to get behind the DM screen and peer out at folks at the table. All you can see are his little pointed ears, the top of his head, and his evil, DM'like eyes. :D

I've used my Jack Russel Terrier as a size reference before. (You see a hoard of giant rats. They're about... *points at terrier*.. that big.

You run across some Hermitcrabmen!!!

Hermit crabmen already have several communities, in my undersea game. They use the shells of slain conchlin, a mollusk-like race, for protection.

Once, my players "accidentally" awakened a kaiju, in this case a giant kitten that a group of monks had been keeping in hibernation. Being in typical PC mode, the barbarian charges the kaiju and attacks. The wizard casts a lightning bolt which reflects back on him, nearly killing him. The kaiju takes a playful swat at the barbarian, taking over half his hit points and requiring a death from massive damage check.

Now, I had warned my players that not all fights in my campaign could be won, and at this point they are begining to get the idea that they need to flee NOW. Right then, my cat Hermit jumps up on the wizard player's lap (Mike Strack). Hermit, being overweight and not the most graceful of cats, doesn't quite make her target and compensates by sinking her claws into Mike's leg. The scream he let out fit the situation perfectly.
