From the code fragment posted in the other thread, it seems that defending is pointless if you have more (or same) agility than the opponent. If you are less agile, it makes your defense a bit more likely to have maximum effectiveness rather than being halved. But either way, it looks pretty useless. Maybe there are other benefits that aren't coded in that fragment.
 

I think there is a point to defending. :)

The point is to try and survive just long enough to get the special attack that ignores counterattacks and can do 99% damage.
