So what does the 'Counter' option do? (aside from opening up your pet to a nasty critical hit?)

If you can survive that nasty critical, you get to do it back to them.

I see that Pythagorus just "fought" Rufus.

Umm... how much did Rufus' first attack do? I see Pythag didn't move first turn, and I assume that was to try to get a counterattack.

I don't think poor Pythagorus got the chance.

Believe me: it wasn't. Counterattack against Rufus just means "your pet goes squish".

The Special Attack was what you needed. And a very lucky roll of the virtual dice.

When you go up against Rufus, and you're that weak, surrender before he can attack!
