PHB 2 Afflitations - are you using them?

How are people finding the affiliation rules in the PHB 2? Like/Hate/Ignore? Do you think they add anything to your game, RP-wise? I am very interested in them but was wondering if anyone had actually used them in game yet.

I haven't had the opportunity, but I really like what I've read. Not sure why they were in the PHB2 as they are clearly a DM thing. I hope they become a de facto requirement for future region-type sourcebooks.

I've just started a new campaign, and am most definitely using the Affliations rules. They are perfect for the knightly orders I've got in mind, and seem to be a better way to put some things (like a mage's guild from my major city) into the game without making up an entirely new prestige class. They also work quite nicely for introducing low-level PCs to the organizations that they need to be members of in order to attain some prestige classes, so you don't end up with a bunch of nobodies suddenly wanting to join an organization just because they hit 5th level.

That sounds like the transition from High school to college ;)

Yes, I'm using them to represent Planescape factions. I think they give incentive for players to keep their faction in mind without providing overpowering benefits. They are basically free benefits though, so I would say they're not for every game and I would feel very conflicted being asked to allow one of the affiliations from the book.

No, but I am perfectly capable of doing the same things myself as they spoon-feed in that section, and have been since when I started DMing in 2001.

I'd like to, but not until someone else puts the work into setting them up for common FR groups.
I can give that to you if you're willing to convert to Modern's Wealth system.... :heh:

I plan on making use out of them. Only a few of the organizations in there will make it in, and I need to make a few up for my tinkered Wilderlands game, but I do like them as a whole.

Still trying to wrap my head around the example of play, though. Not sure I want so much "off-screen" action in the session as is depicted therein.
