Other: the universe will collapse into a point-mass from the sheer gravitic tedium of 4e speculation threads. The PHB3 will be released shortly before this takes place, though all life will cease to exist before we have a chance to recognise it.

But those third-party companies didn't seem to pick up on the cue, and surprisingly little adventure material emerged. WotC ultimately shrugged and decided to take up the slack.

Or, there was an early rush of 3rd party adventures, but the companies that survived quickly found that adventures don't sell terribly well, and that they could make a lot more money (reality: enough to scrape by) by ditching adventures in favour of sourcebooks.

On topic: I expect PHBIII next year, and PHB 4e the year after.

D&d 3.75.

Sure, why not? Third edition rules seem pretty popular and have a mechanical soundness previous editions lacked. WotC may be a bunch of evil corporate monsters, but I think they have enough business sense to realize that people aren't just going to throw away the last several years woth of rulebooks just because WotC commands them too. If they're not going to come up with a new set of rules that are a radical departure from what we're playing now, if they're not going to bank on everyone throwing away their rulebooks, then why call it a new edition? Just call the new books "revisions" and give away freely downloadable conversion kits.

Other - space invasion with giant anthropomorhic cockroaches with lazer beams shooting out their butt-holes killing all of mankind and vapourizing the earth before either book sees the light of day.

Some people Wizards publishing adventures is the sign that they've run out of rules-oriented content they can cover.

Well, I'm not one of them. However, I am one of those that thinks the market for two hardcovers a month at $30+ a crack could not continue. If that meant more $20 96 page softcover supplements as opposed to the hardcovers I wouldn't have a problem with it either.

I'm sorry, but I am so sick of 4E threads, I was actually glad to see them all get deleted in the board reset.

For heaven's sake jsut enjoy 3.5 while it is here, 4E will come when it comes.

And yet you feel the need to view and post in this one.

Anyone know of any marketing studies that compare the sales figures of adventures to sourcebooks?
