PHB - revised?

Snoweel

First Post
Hi everyone. <waves>

I bought the PHB I have back in June(?) 2000(?) - my memory's not too good when it comes to chronology, but suffice to say, I bought it when it was first released.

I understand that if I bought a new PHB now, it would likely be superior to the one I already have (over and above its lack of coffee-mug rings).

Is this true? What would be different? Does it include eratta? Is it worth buying a new printing of the PHB?

Thanks.
Love,
Snoweel

Well, you can download the errata (and FAQ) and keep it near the PH. If you do decide to get the new printing make sure it says "2nd printing" or later on the bottom of the credit page. At this time, only 2nd printing PH is currently available. The standard price is now $30, so you may want to shop around for discount.

BTW, I don't recall the 3e PH being out by June when it debuted two months later to coincide the opening of GenCon 2000. Just so you know.

I'm sure someone will give you all of the dirty details, but in short:

The 2nd printing PHB I bought had an added section with articles from Dragon further explaining the rules. If you bought the Dragon during early 3E you probably have all of that stuff.

I'm not sure if they did much else but clean up the Character generator CD a little.

Does this remind anyone of the tactical game Star Fleet Battles?
THAT game was supposed to be the King of Errata.
I do believe it is going to have to accept the status of Jack, instead.

Heh. I'm still in therapy because of SFB. :(

It is the King of Errata but that's because it is the King of Wargame Manual. I mean how many wargame manual have you come across that is more than 500 pages, and that is just the Commander's Edition. Wait 'till you add the Deluxe Captain's Edition! Oy vey!!!

Not to mentioned it is written in the style of a textbook if not a lawbook, with scarce B&W illustrations.

WoTC has released about 1/10th, at most, the amount of errata that Task Force Games released for SFB. WoTC isn't even a distant 2nd on the all-time errata list.

When they first relased the PHB, it had a "2000 survival kit" in the back, some basic info on monsters, traps, experance points, ect. because the DMG would not be relased for a month, the MM a month after that. As I understand, later printings of the PHB has some game tips, attack of opp. excamples, ect. Hope this helps.
