PHB3 Excerpts: what are you hankering for?

Hybrid rules. Right now, I'm sans gaming group, so most of my fun is from 'theorycrafting' (More along the ideas of fun themes than CO). Hybrid rules give me more play with that than anything else.

Psionic Rituals....

I'm pretty disappointed that Martial now has it's rituals seperated out into a seperate thing, Martial Practices but Psions still use Tenser's Floating Disk.

So the biggest preview I'm hoping for it truely psionic rituals that are different than magic.

Why?!

One of the biggest things that 3e psionics suffered from was they kept on having to make psionic versions of various spells out there. Psions already have Arcane as a class skill, anyways.

Exactly that's what I don't want, I don't want psionics versions of everything!


I don't want the psions to be doing a psionic version of Tenser's floating disk, I don't want psions to be doing floating disk AT ALL. they need to be distinctly different

Floating Disk and Unseen Servant work perfectly for Telekinetic Rituals, you don't need to waste space and more, by making something else that do exactly the same thing as both of those rituals. Otherwise you get another case of Remote Viewing/Scry, as you there'll be a bunch of space wasted on making psionic stuff X to fill in all of those gaps left by there not being Y, when they could have saved all that work by saying they use rituals like everyone else.

And besides there is no "Psionics" skill, there's Arcane on the skill list. And does the distinction of rituals matter anymore when Wizards, Artificers, Bards and Druids can use Raise Dead and Resurrection if they bother to become trained in Religion, and learn the ritual themselves.

Yeah, but given that the spellcasting characters in D&D already create pretty much any effect you can imagine in fantasy, what's left for psionics to do? Hearing "psionics" would make me think of mind control, but with illusions and domination effects already in the game, what could you do?
