Philadelphia geek destinations

It should also go without saying that you need to get a good cheesesteak (Pat's, Geno's, Jim's, and Tony Luke's are the big ones, but there are others...to tell the truth, it's difficult to get a bad cheesesteak at any competent steak shop). You also need to get a soft pretzel, preferably from a sidewalk vendor.

Philadelphia is chock full of history. Go down to Independence Hall and the Constitution Center. Last time I took a walking tour my gamer geek brain mapped out an entire colonial RPG campaign.

That's probably no more than 5 minutes from my office --on Ye Olde Germantown Pike-- and I didn't know it existed. Thanks!
They have a monthly D&D Meetup, though I have never been.

So that's what all the nerf-armed kids are doing in Clark Park. My wife and I couldn't figure that out. We also live near the park in University City, which is the marketing ploy part of West Philadelphia.
They are not using Nerf (TM) toys (I imagine that you can tell that having seen the swords, axes and shields [shields tend to be boogie boards]), but homemade (my son made a guitar - El Kabong anyone?) weapons that are then vetted as play-safe. It is fun and some good exercise. It started as an introduction to a youth-based LARP, but CtF has taken off with a life of its own. I have seen sixty people playing at once.
If you live in UC, that makes three ENWorlders in the 'hood. The other runs Xen'drik (RPGA) on Friday nights if you are interested. I am probably starting up Keep on the Shadowfell are you interested?

It sure looks fun.

What are their handles? I know there are a number of gamers in the neighborhood, seeing as I've seen people clutching and/or reading gaming books at places the SEPTA stop at 46th and Baltimore and Dahlak.

Unfortunately, my long-running weekly game, which I've taken to calling "More Tales of CITY" is usually played on Friday nights.

Interested? Sure. Have the time? Maybe. I probably could play over the summer but I'm not sure about a longer commitment after my regular group reconvenes, which may or may not be what you're looking for in a player. Speaking of which, perhaps you'd like to check out the Story Hour in my sig. It's a fine example of my take on D&D... and what you'd be getting in to with me at your table :) !

I let the ENworlders out themselves... You have no .sig and your Story Hour does not seem to be listed in the Story Hour index

Pssst... a .sig only appears on the 1st post a person makes in a thread. Anyway, the SH is called "The Chronicle of Burne, and Some Others of Lesser Importance". It is in the index, but it's written by one of the players, Rolzup. so it's under his name. Since new material was just posted, it's currently on the first page.

Don't know when you're there, but Wizards Magazine has one of their big comic book conventions in Philadephia from May 30 to June 1. I'm hoping to take the trip up from the DC area because its' that cool!

Heh, I'm in SF this week for training....

It's good to hear of some other Philly-based or near-Philly stores: I'll add them to the list to check out when I'm back home in South Jersey in a few months! :D
