Pimp My Artifact!!

Can we change the name of this thread to "Pimp My Artifact" ???

I like it!

I do sort of miss the way that artifacts were handled in AD&D. The same artifact could have wildly different powers in each campaign, if you wanted it to. Maybe I just miss my AD&D DM's Guide. That book rocked!

The Stronghold Builder's Guide actually might be the best reference for fioguring out what the cost multiplier should be (as admantine, unlike mithral, doesn't give a per pound cost in the DMG).

The SBG book had a table, I think with the walls, that listed the modifiers to make stuff out of various materials. Comparing the modifiers for steel (or maybe iron? can't remember what the apparatus is made out of) and admantine should give you a pretty reasonable set of modifiers for an admantine version of the apparatus.

Thanks for the advice on materials, guys. I've definitely looked into them. The only problem is that they have pushed the price of the item over 2 million gold and probably closer to 2.5 million gold. Gief! That means it will take like 7 years and 100,000 xp to create. Oi! I'll be level 10 again by the time I get this done.

Or you could simply quest for such a vessel : "Drawmij is reputed to live in a cavernous underwater fortress beneath the Azure Sea, 150 miles south of Gradsul in Keoland, where he deals with merfolk, whales, dolphins, and many other denizens of the ocean. This fastness was once the dwelling of the druid Sverdras Meno. He visits the Free City of Greyhawk as little as possible, finding it stifling and distasteful, but visits Gradsul regularly. Drawmij possesses a magical metal boat he can pilot underwater."

Such is the price of building an artifact! :D

To Aeolius' idea, you could go on a quest for the amazing, fabled adamantite / obdurium statue of whatever in the lost city of blah blah, then magically imbue it.

Anyway, I like the idea of questing for components to reduce the time, as well as hiring helpers with magical tools.
