Pimping your Holy Symbol

Joker

First Post
Does anyone know if it's allowed to change the look of your Holy Symbol. Let's say an evil cleric is pretending to be a cleric of another faith, could he use a different symbol for his spells?

I'd say no. A holy symbol, to do anything as all, needs to be backed up by personal belief. An evil cleric would not gain by toting around a holy symbol of Pelor, for example.

However, it might be possible, through use of Knowledge: religion, profession: design, or craft: appropriate material (or combination thereof) to stylize an evil holy symbol in such a way as to make it harder to recognize, if allowed by the GM.

No, but I could easily see a deity of trickery and deceit that doesn't have a symbol, and instead uses whatever other deity's symbol is handy.

That could be quite entertaining.

I'd say no, but enterprising clerics might be able to work it into another holy symbol. Followers of a shadow god might have a shaded effect aroung the edge of a shield of Pelor, or some such. It would be tricky work though.

The cleric in question is one of Asmodeus (Lord of Hell), but given that he posing as a benevolant person the upside down star is a kind of a dead give away.

Get two-way gloves with your holy symbol stitched on the inside (facing your palms), and the symbol of the deity you are using as a cover stitched on the outside (on the back of your hands).

Set yourself up as a small cult devoted to a minor deity that no one has ever heard of before. Incorporate some element of the deity into said religious symbol. The symbol given is only one of several options: there are other variants out there. (Complete Divine has some good ideas in it regarding this.)

Niiiiiice!

What if the PC's found this pair of gloves in the "suspicious-acting" NPC's private chambers? They probably wouldn't turn them inside out. This is exactly the sort of clue that PC's could discover and not know it was important...until later (if ever).
