Shouldn't he have d8 HD both giant, and druid use it.

Hill giant is CR 7, I'm thinking +1 CR for the size increase, +2 CR for the gestault granted abilities, -2 CR for having 6 rather than 12 HD (even with the type increase), and then maybe another +1 because his equipment seems above standard 6th level. So I think CR 9 should be about right.

Edit: maybe another +1 due to secial abilities so 10.

Given the HD and the druid levels, it seems ok for a CR 12. I just cannot help feeling that a level 12 party would walk right through this monster. It does not have too many hit points and with the damage that a level 12 party can dish out, the regeneration 10 won't really do too much to slow them down. Therefore, I might lower the CR a bit, maybe by one or two.

However, I really like the monster and I enjoy the concept of having to know its true name.

Just my two cents; may or may not have been helpful.

Remember that in E6 you stop at 6th level. For a bunch of 6th level characters, this guy's going to be very tough indeed. CR 12 seems reasonabe when you include his items - though I'd give him another axe to use when Granite Edge is dancing.

I think CR12 is a little high.
Definitely no more than 11 (Adult Black Dragon, Troll Hunter) and maybe 10 is about right (Rakshasa, Grey Slaad).
I guess it depends how good you think the regeneration is. I'm guessing that it'll be really annoying but that eventually his name will be found - if that's the case, then the "real" challenge" will be one without regen, and finding his name will be a whole other challenge. I'd then say CR 10, assuming it's possible to find his name (if they don't, well, that's the parties problem :D). It's probably rather less than more than 10 -- assuming that it's possible to find the name (though not easy). CR 9/10 if name can be found, CR 10/11 if it'll be very difficult to do so.
