I think.. After about 12 years with three cars.. I'm possibly over it. The first one wasn't intentional. It was my second car.. First one I bought all by myself. (First car being a cheap piece of garbage Dodge Neon bought off a distant relative off the bad advice from my father. He at least helped pay for it.) But it was a 2004 Mazda 3. It was amazing. I actually passed on it at first because it was a manual. It was like the perfect car. Ticked all my boxes, and more.. It was like "Oh man. This is almost the perfect car. Shame I can't drive a stick." after another week of looking I hadn't found anything better, and it was still available, and dropped even lower in price. I figured I at least had to go check it out. Bought the car, and my step-mom taught me how to drive it in the parking lot of a hotel across from the dealer before I drove it the ~75 minutes home. I loved that car.. Unfortunately I was young and stupid and blew it up from neglect after only about 18 months of owning it. After that point though, a manual transmission became a non-negotiable on my list of features. Had a 2012 Nissan Juke with a 6-speed for about 8 years and drove that baby into the ground. 190k miles(I was responsible for 120k of them) , and two confirmed deer kills before I finally put it out to pasture. I've had a 2020 Subaru Impreza for the last two years now and it's a great car... Don't get me wrong.. But I'm getting older now, and my priorities are starting to shift. Going on vacation with the girlfriend who can't drive a stick, for instance was a huge drag. Also, getting stuck in traffic with a manual is awful. I'll miss it.. But I think the next car will probably be an auto.
